Strictly protected species are native wild species that are in danger of extinction, narrow endemics or those wild species that must be protected in accordance with European Union regulations or on the basis of international agreements to which the Republic of Croatia is a party. They are proclaimed by the Ministry in charge of nature protection, at the proposal of the Croatian Environment and Nature Agency.
The griffon vulture is a bird of prey that belongs to the hawk family. This animal species is strictly protected in Croatia, which means that its life, but also its habitat must not be endangered. It is located in the area of the island of Cres, where there is an association that deals with its protection.
