Listen to your mother, she knows why she is talking something to you ...

Tain is a traditional Serbian bread made from a specific mixture of rye and white flour, which could last a long time.
Tain means ration. Each Serbian soldier carried with himself daily ration of 800 grams of bread.
The fact that the bread bag was an obligatory part of the uniform also testifies to how sacred this bread was for the Serbian soldier. Tain was the only way for a Serbian soldier to survive all the hardships and food shortages during the war.

According to the story, Aleksa Zdravković, a soldier who took part in the Balkan wars and the World War I , was protected by bread during all the years of the war.
Legends behind this bread...

Aleksa, my son, you must not to eat the first ration of bread you received, but to keep it as an amulet.
