It is Friday afternoon and Digi, Pempe, Avionut and Owlies are at the library for their weekend research homework. Mrs. Right assigned them to search for inventions and their source of inspiration. Now , they are busy to find the answer of the question.

Hey listen! It is written that many inventions were inspired by nature! It is really interesting ,isn't it?

Here it is stated that velcro was invented accidentally .In 1955, after taking his dog for a walk in the woods, Swiss electrical engineer George De Mestral found that burrs from the burdock plant had clung to his clothes – as well as to his dog's fur.
Amazing!








The VELCRO® brand of hook and loop was invented by a man named George de Mestral in the 1940's while hunting in the Jura mountains in Switzerland. Mr. de Mestral, a Swiss engineer, realized that the tiny hooks of the cockle-burs were stuck on his pants and in his dog's fur and wondered how they attached themselves.






I liked this invention. I have it on my shoes and it is really easy to wear with it!

It says in the book that kingfisher inspired a bullet train in Japan.

Really, can you read it for us please? We would like to find out more about it. We just know that these trains from Japan are very fast.




Trains in Japan were getting so fast, and it was causing a loud booming sound. One of the engineers on the team trying to solve the problem was a birdwatcher. He saw a kingfisher bird diving down through the air, going into the water and creating a little splash.


And so, they modeled the front of the train like the kingfisher’s face. It has a pointy part to it just like the beak of the kingfisher. And when they tried out that new model, it moved through without creating the boom. And it saved them 10-15% more energy because it was more aerodynamic.






Bullet trains are the fastest and most convenient way of discovering Japan. The Japan Rail network is extensive, and the trains reach a top speed of 320 km/h (199mp/h). This allows you to get to wherever you need in little time.The nine lines take you in different directions around Japan. From Tokyo to the south runs the Tokaido Shinkansen line, connecting the capital with Osaka. The Sanyo Shinkansen line connects Osaka with Fukuoka and, from there, the Kyushu Shinkansen line runs through the island of Kyushu from north to south.
The other six lines either take you north or inland from Tokyo. These are the Akita, Hokkaido, Hokuriku, Joetsu, Tokoku, and Yamagata Shinkansen lines. The Hokkaido line takes you the furthest north, all the way to Hokkaido island.





I would love to visit Japan and travel around in Bullet trains!

The owl has such fine feathers that it makes no noise at all. I won't hear it in time.



Mouse, don't be afraid! We are in a soundproofed room. The materials on the walls keep any sound at bay.

How scared was the poor mouse! But, I just discovered the connection between the owl and the soundproofing of the room.



To soundproof a room, people use absorbent materials that keep any sound at bay. The owl benefits from sound insulation. In order to get closer to the rodent, the owl needs to be as quiet as possible. Its fine feathers help. The air circulates around the wings through some channels, and the friction force is reduced to a minimum.

I also think so.
The basic steps to lifting off between birds and planes are similar. The air going over the wings pushes the plane a little bit into the air which is like that first jump for the bird. The plane's engines are like a bird flapping its wings: it helps them to glide through the air. Wright Brothers were inspired by birds on aviation.


Always working on different mechanical projects and keeping up with scientific research, the Wright brothers closely followed the research of German aviator Otto Lilienthal. When Lilienthal died in a glider crash, the brothers decided to start their own experiments with flight. Determined to develop their own successful design, Wilbur and Orville headed to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, known for its strong winds.









Wright Brothers invented the first plane . They were inspired by birds' wings.

Dragonflies and Helicopters

Helicopters are like dragonflies as they were designed to mimic dragonfly abilities. They can fly in any direction (up, down, forward, backward) or simply hover. All four wings move independently, and can rotate on an axis for incredible flight control. They can make hairpin turns mid-flight, changing direction instantly.And they can fly upside-down.Igor Sikorsky (inventor of the helicopter) were inspired by the works of Wtight Brothers and Von Zeepelin on aviation. Then he decided to invent a flying vehicle which resembles a dragonfly.







Appearently,there is a big similarity between them.
