This story book consists of the mascot stories and drawings of our students about Green Heart project. It is prepared by Green Heart project team leaders and their students.

We had a lot of fun while creating them and we hope you enjoy while reading, too.

THE ACORN STORY

The sun's rays caressed the colorful treetops. The acorn swayed on the branch and watched the beautiful colors brought by autumn. Suddenly the wind blew, ShhhhshhhShhh. Itblew so hard that the acorn twisted three times and then fell off the tree. He rolled down the slope, tripped over a root, slipped on moss, hit a rock, and landed in a pile of fallen leaves, while in addition he lost his cap. It was then that worried him, “My hat! My green heart on the cap! What if it tears!” The acorn was scared, he was alone, without family or friends. His sister would help him find a cap with a green heart, which meant a lot to him if only she was by his side.

The birch fairy gave him a green heart because he protected forest flowers and leaves. This was an important recognition in the forest. A tear slid down his face. He was afraid he would disappoint the birch fairy.He stepped resolutely through the blueberries, uncovered the fern looking for the cap with the precious heart. He saw a company of cones on the slope. “Juhuhu, heeej!” he called after them, “Wait! Help me find the cap!” but they rolled off. Under the old beech he met a beechnut and asked him if he had seen his cap anywhere: “You know, my cap is like that, beautiful, with a green heart. Did you see it?” The beechnut frowned as he dodged the boars' muzzles all morning. “No, no, no, I didn’t see it. Look there at the roots or in the moss!” he replied. Underneath the chestnut tree he climbed onto a stump to look around, but he slipped on the damp moss. His hand landed on a chestnut bur and he cried “Aaauuuuu!” It hurt so bad.

At that moment he heard laughter from behind the bushes. He wondered who was having so much fun. Children were running in the clearing. He hid behind a log and watched them with such big eyes that he forgot about the thorns in his palm. Children tossed leaves, jumped over fallen trunks, drew branches on the ground, made bivouacs, hunted and laughed. When the wind blew again, he was shaken by the cold: “Brrrrrr!” He remembered that he was without a cap and had sharp thorns in his palm. “Aaauuuuu!” he shouted so loudly that the children heard him and ran to him. They immediately pulled the thornsout of his palm. They comforted him and told him that accidents also happento them while exploring in naturebut that never stops them. The acorn seemed fine when he heard the children coming into the woods so enthusiastically. Together they found a cap with a green heart and then played on the forest clearing.

The children wondered why he had a green heart attached to his cap. He boasted that it was an award he received for protecting forest flowers and foliage. He was very proud of it. The children decided to protect the forest themselves. Maybe one day they will meet a birch fairy. Maybe she'll praise them. Maybe she'll dance with them. They turned to the acorn and asked him: “What is a birch fairy like?” The acorn shrugged: "Sometimes she reveals herself to those kids who follow the forest rules."

THE GREENIE STORY

In the nearest forest there lives a tree Greenie. It is a magic tree with green leaves and a big green heart. It has got superpowers. Greenie can heal animals and other trees. It can talk, heal and walk. It came to our Kindergarten to teach us about animals and trees and forest. Greenie is very happy when we go to visit its friends trees and animals. It will teach us to play in the forest. We will take good care of the Greenie. Greenie is our new friend.

THE LEAF STORY

Once upon the time lived the leaf, his name was Liepukas. He lived in the yard of kindergarden in his own linden tree on the most highest branch. At the time when autumn came a strong wind blew and Liepukas flew from his linden tree.The leaf flew arround the yard of the kindergarden. Wind carried him and spinned around, he couldn‘t find the place to land. Suddenly the leaf saw kindergarden‘s open window and flew inside. Children who were plauing at the room immediately noticed the guest and wanted to know more about him. Liepukas said that his favorite color is green and the most delicious food is beetroot soop and stuffed cabbage rolls.

Liepukas liked staying with children at the kindergarden‘s room that much that decided to stay here forever.

ROSE THE BEE STORY

2021! The New Year came but unfortunately Covid-19 virus is still here. The good thing of course is that schools are opened and students are very enthousiastic. Covid 19 had forced them to be away. Now they all play together again with their favorite games. However, they must be careful, this means that they must wear the masks, keep their distance, but at least they are together again. Their teachers have to open the windows in order to ventilate the classroom even though the winter has brought cold weather.

Suddenly, a bee entered the classroom through the open window. Some of the children were scared, some were not. Then the bee went and sat on the cork board where we had hung our paintings. It looked at us and without expecting something like that, it started telling us a story.

“Once upon a time, not far from here, on the mountain Paggaio in a lush forest full of scents, a bee lived there with her husband, the bee would have a child. They were both very happy and together they imagined what their baby would look like. It would be special because it would be the first bee to be born in the hive this spring. They did not know what name to give to the new born baby. Hopefully, the bee was born and she was really special. She had wonderful smart eyes and her cheeks were rosy like roses.

One day the children of a school decided to go on a forest trip. Laughs and voices woke up the little bee that ran to see what was happening. The kids saw her and were scared, like you now. But the bee spoke to them and told them that she would guide them to the forest, which was her own home. The children were excited and one by one they told her their name. When the bee's turn came she hesitated and lowered her head tellingthem that she still did not have a name because her parents had not decided yet. Then one of the children shouted: “You should be called Rose!! Because your cheeks are rosy like roses!”. Everyone agreed and since then the little bee was called Rose.”

The bee then stopped, bowed and said, “ I am Rose!”

I came here today because there has been a long time since I met children in my forest. The truth is that I was waiting for them to tour them in my forest, offering them my nutritious honey, which the other bees I make with so much love. As well as to give them the herbs that are grown in our blessed mountain. Children explained that they could not visit the forest because the schools were closed for a long time due to covid 19. Then the bee told them, that she must be hurry to visit, as many schools as possible to offer all the goods she brought us. Children need to eat honey and drink the decoction of forest herbs to stay healthy. The children said goodbye to her and prepared a bag with some of the goodies theyhad for their breakfast and gave it to the bee for her trip. Finally, they suggested her not to forget to visit other countries, because the Covid-19 virus afflicts everyone in the world. Maybe Rose will visit your school too…

Here it is our sweet monkey Mary. She comes from Africa and she is very curious little monkey with big heart. As she was always searching for adventures, one day she decided to jump off journey around the world. She have learned a lot but at the same time she saw how people do not take care of the nature so that she became so sad. Mary was thinking how could help to the nature but also to the people. She was determined to change the world. Now Mary is traveling to many countries to remind the people that the Earth is our home and we must keep it, otherwise we could destroy ourselves

THE CARETTA CARETTA ERDEM STORY

Once upon a time ago, a tiny caretta caretta named ERDEM with a green heart on its back opened its eyes to the World in a country where the sun shines like gold and the sea swayed like cradles made of diamonds. Seeing the green hearton Erdem's back, his mother and father realized that he was the chosen turtle in legends. All the living creatures around greeted Erdem in the morning glory, beach lilies, sand lily, thistles, pine trees oak trees and everyone in the forest. All the carettas have sailed towards the sea. The sea embraced these tiny carettas, which had just opened its eyes to the world, with the kindness of a mother.

In the heart of the sea, Wise Caretta welcomed the little carettas. He told them that we have been in the world for more than a hundred years, and our duty was to teach the world benevolence and he added that there is a green-hearted turtle among you, mentioned in legends, and the person who will guide you. Then he introduced Erdem to all sea creatures. As the tiny carettas moved towards the heart of the sea, they saw the trash thrown into the sea from the ships and the beach and were very sad. Erdem has been assigned to protect the seas and forests around the world. He is one of the messengers born with a green heart, saying we should help him as much as we can. Living beings born with a green heart have extraordinary powers, for example, they can talk to people and prevent anyone trying to harm nature.

That day the wise caretta wanted everyone to make a promise. He said that not only humans but all living things have the right to live in the world and you will work with Erdem to prove this to the world. The little carettas immediately got to work and collected all the garbage in the sea. When it came to the beach, suddenly human voices were heard on the beach, but this was not normal human voices. Just like the carettas, tiny people were collecting garbage and waste from the forest on the beach with garbage bags in their hands. They are actually children who have made a promise to protect the sea and the forest. Erdem and his friends met the children. The children couldn't believe they were talkingto the carettas. Erdem said to the children that after this day, we will undertake the protection of the sea and the forest together. He said our friendship will last forever

He said that you have a lot to learn from nature, if you want children, we can invite your friends and learn a lot together here. And so the green heart is no longer a legend. In all countries of the world, wherever there is a child who has promised to protect nature, he must have a green heart. Some on the caretta, some on the Bee, some on the acorn, some on a monkey or a linden leaf… Even though their hearts were in different places, they all had the same task; protecting nature, sea and forest. After you read this story, listen to your green heart and listen to nature. It may have a lot to tell you.
