The ancient Olympic Games were a sporting event held every four years at the sacred site of Olympia, in the western Peloponnese, in honour of Zeus, the supreme god of the Greek religion. The games, held from 776 BCE to 393 CE, involved participants and spectators from all over Greece and even beyond.
The Olympic Games were the most important cultural event in ancient Greece and they ran for 293 consecutive Olympiads. So important were the Games in the ancient world that they were even used as a basis for the calendar.

In the Olympic Games 1936 in Berlin ,49 countries took part and there were 3.963 athletes in total. The opening ceremony took place in the 1st of August 1936 and the closing one in the he 16th. It was promised to be the greatest anti-fascist spectecle seen. The games were originally organised to be in 1916 but were canceled due to the World War 2

Another interesting fact are the official mascots of the Olympics. Wenlock and Mandeville. These were two creations with only one eye, representing the lens of a camera that records what they see.

The 1904 Summer Olympics were an international multi-sport event held in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, from 29 August to 3 September 1904. This was the first time that the Olympic Games were held outside Europe and it has the first time that the Olympic games were held in America !

The 1904 Summer Olympic program featured 16 sports encompassing 95 events in 18 disciplines. Swimming, diving and water polo are considered three disciplines of the same sport, aquatics . In July 2021 the IOC accepted the recommendation of Olympic historian Bill Mallon regarding which sports and events should be considered as Olympic.

Firstly, in order to feast an outrageous amount of visitors we had to upgrade both security and health units.

Of course, we had to improve, for instance, our roads, airports, ports and metro!

Well the ceremony was outstanding! Also a lot of Greek Athletes won gold medals.
Firstly, in the mens 81kg category, Ilias Iliadis won Greece’s first ever gold medal in Judo!
Moreover, Thomas Bimis and Nikolas Siranidis captured Greece’s first gold medal in diving in synchronised springboard.
There were other Greek athletes too!

I was surprised by their work which featured presentations of the history and culture of Brazil.
Portions of the ceremony were also dedicated to the topics of environmental conservation and climate change.
Over 6000 volunteers danced in the opening ceremony!
I was surprised by the fact that

The 1984 Summer Olympics were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States.
Moreover, 140 countries took part, with 6,829 athletes, in 221 events of 21 sports. American sprinter, Carl Lewis was the form athlete of the Games, with 4 gold medals.

Lewis emulated his boyhood idol Jesse Owens by winning gold in the 100m, the 200m, the long jump and the 4x100m relay. A superstar was born.

Men's basketball became open to all professionals and the U.S. sent a "Dream Team" of superstars, including Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird.

The 1992 United States men's Olympic basketball team, nicknamed the "Dream Team", was the first American Olympic team to feature active professional players from the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team has been described by journalists around the world as the greatest sports team ever assembled.
At the 1992 Summer Olympics held in Barcelona, the team defeated its opponents by an average of 44 points en route to the gold medal against Croatia.
The team was collectively inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2009, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, and the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2017.

The 1980 summer olympics, oficially known as the games of the XXII olympiad and commonly know as Moscow 1980, were an international multi-sport event held from 19 July to 3 August 1980 in Moscow, Soviet Unioin, in present day Russia.
Moscow had its own mascot. He was maned Misha and he was a smiling brown bear , a symbol of Russian culture, wearing a belt with the five Olympic rings.
Nadia Comaneci was blessed with exceptional skills, balance and a clean technique, she added two more gold medals to her Montreal one at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow (balance beam and floor), and won two World Championship golds and numerous European titles.
She was born in November 12th, 1961.
She achieved perfection at the age of 14.
1) The Romanian gymnast scored a ''perfect 10''on the uneven bars in the team part of the gymnastics at the 1976 Mortreal Olympic games.

Many Greek athletes participated in the Sydney Olympic Games. However, it is worth mentioning two very important names. One of them is Konstantinos Kenteris.
Konstantinos Kenteris developed a frenetic pace and galloped towards the gold medal, which he won with a performance of 20.09 (a new pan-Hellenic record), leaving Darren Campbell second with a time of 20.14 and Ato Boldon third with a time of 20.20.

Around 2.4 billion watched the telecast of the closing ceremony. Irena Szewińska was born in 24 May 1946 and died in 29 June 2018, was a Polish sprinter who was one of the world's foremost athletes for nearly two decades, in multiple events.

Between 1964 and 1980 she participated in five Olympic Games, winning seven medals, three of them gold. On the morning of September 5, Palestinian terrorists in ski masks ambushed the Israeli team. After negotiations to free the nine Israelis broke down, the terrorists took the hostages to the Munich airport.

After winning three gold medals at the 1964 Tokyo Games, Vera Caslavska was the favourite to repeat her success in 1968. In April she had signed the “Manifesto of 2000 Words”, which rejected Soviet involvement in Czechoslovakia. Two months before the Olympic Games began, Soviet tanks rolled into Prague.
Caslavska competed under enormous pressure against Soviet athletes. Despite the rudimentary preparation, she successfully defended her all-around and vault titles, adding two more golds and two silvers. The Mexican people identified with her stand against oppression, and she became the star of the Games.
Akinori Nakayama was the most successful male athlete at the 1968 Olympics, winning four gold medals, one silver and one bronze, yet his performances were somewhat overshadowed by a fellow gymnast, the elegant Věra Čáslavská. In Mexico, he again joined the victorious Japanese team, with individual titles on the rings, the parallel bars and horizontal bar.

Hi, my name is David and I will tell you a story about the olympic games when my grandpa was a child in 1952.
Tell us a story
After Japan declared in 1938 that it could not host the 1940 Olympics in Tokyo due to the Japanese war, Helsinki was chosen to host the 1940 Summer Olympics, which were then canceled due to World War II. With London hosting the 1948 Olympics, in 1952 Helsinki finally managed to host the Olympics. it is the most recent time that two consecutive Summer Olympics have been held entirely in Europe. Helsinki is the northernmost city that has hosted the Summer Olympics.
The 1952 Olympics saw the breaking of most world records, for example the Soviet Union, People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Thailand and the Saarland made their Olympic debuts in 1952.
This didn't stay in history for long as 2008 saw even more records being broken

The 1960 summer olympics, officially known as The Games of the XVII Olympiad and commonly known as Rome 1960, were an international multi-sport event held from 25 August to 11 September 1960 in Rome, Italy.
Rome had previously been awarded the administration of the 1908 Summer Olympics , but following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906, the city had no choice but to decline and pass the honour to hold the Olympics back then.
The 1st Paralympic Games were held in Rome in conjunction with the 1960 Summer Olympics, marking the first time such events coincided.
On 15 June 1955, at the 50th IOC Session in Paris, France, Rome won the rights to host the 1960 Games, having beaten Brussels, Mexico City, Tokyo, Detroit, Budapest and finally Lausanne. Tokyo and Mexico City would subsequently host the proceeding1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics respectively.
Toronto was initially interested in the bidding, but appears to have dropped out during the final phase of the bid process. This was the first of five unsuccessful attempts by Toronto to secure the Summer Olympics from then until the 2008 Games.
A total of 83 nations participated at the Rome Games. Athletes from Morocco, San Marino, Sudan, and Tunisia competed at the Olympic Games for the first time. Athletes from Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago would represent the new (British) West Indies Federation, competing as "Antilles", but this nation would only exist for this single Olympiad. Athletes from Northern Rhodesia and Southern Rhodesia competed under the Rhodesia name while representing the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Athletes from East Germany and West Germany would compete as the United Team of Germany from 1956 to 1964.
The Soviet Union won the most gold and overall medals at the 1960 Games.

Here, 99 years ago, for second time, 3089 athletes from 44 nations, participated and competed for 17 diferrent sports. Τhey started at 7 July and ended at 27 July 1924.

From the 44 nations, Germany was still absent, having not been invited by the Organizing Committee. China (although it did not compete), Equador, Ireland, Lithuania and Uruguay attended the Olympic Games for the first time, while the Philippines competed for first time in an Olympic Games as a nation. Latvia and Poland also attended the Summer Olympic Games for the first time.
The USA won the most medals, 99 in total and Paobo Nouri from Finland, won 5 individual gold medals which are the most. (After Finland) France is in the 3rd place in the classification.
The last surviving competitor of the 1924 Summer Olympics was Croatian swimmer Ivo Pavelic, who died on 22 February 2011 at the age of 103. He competed for Yugoslavia, which Croatia was part of at the time.

Hello im Steve and this is my classmate Manolis and today we are going to be talking to you about the Olympic games of Beijing that took place at 2008.
The summer olympics of Beijing were an international multisport event held from 8 to 24 of August in Beijing.
A total of 10.942 athletes competed in 28 sports and 302 events.
Under the direction of Liu Qi, Beijing was selected as the host city for the 2008 summer olympics on the 13 of july 2001.
Before the opening ceremony the people's Liberation Army Navy Band performed the welcome March song as delegations to the Chinese government.
The opening ceremony officially began at 8:00 pm on August 8 2008.
The mascots of the 2008 summer olympics were, the Fuwa,Beibei,Huanhu
