To all teachers and students who made this project possible, thank you!

Hello, I'm Barış from Turkiye. We are 5 friends met at the ETwining project at our schools, me, Barış from Turkiye, Arina from Romania, Paz from Portugal, Pace from Italy and Eirini from Greece. We will meet at a youth camp in Greece. We are so excited because Greece is the cradle of democracy.

As a Turkish boy, I feel myself lucky to live in a democratic country like my friends because Turkey hosted many civilizations in ancient times and that's because we are tolerant enough for different cultures and also different ideas. Thanks to our great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, we have lots of rights since 1923, when Turkish Republic was founded and both women and men had equal rights.

Pace decided to talk his friends about Italian democracy. He pointed out that Italy is widely considered a free country and a liberal democracy. Elections are free and fair while the government generally respects political rights and civil liberties. He said that Italy is a republic. In a referendum in 1946, Italians decided to change the system of government from a monarchy to a republic due to the monarchy's support for fascism.

Hi my friends, this is the symbol
of the Italian State.
The olive tree is the symbol of peace;
the oak, of vigor; the wheel, of work and progress. Italy, depicted by the star, is reborn to its new destiny in industrious peace and fruitful activities.

Arina said was from Romania. Democracy in her country is of recent date. They have democracy after the Revolution of 1989. Now they have a president elected for 5 years and a Parliament that they elect every 4 years. They have a lot to learn about democracy but the important thing is that they learn and want to live in a country that takes their opinions into account. Long live democracy!

Baris met Paz from Damaia, Portugal. Paz told him what is her experience with Democracy in her country:
"We celebrate this year the 50 years of Democracy in our country.
Everyone has the same rights, men, women, children.
We have public school, hospitals, we can study, work, give our opinion and choose our politics by free vote. In our school the classes have girls and boys from different nationalities and religions, we choose our class representant and vote for the Student Association. Our Education Ministry give us the possibilitie of spend 500euros to present a proposition that is voted by all students to improve our school.
Democracy is very important and we should care it!"

We made our research and prepared our drama. We even wrote a poem about the democracy.
In a world where we live, we've got something to give,
It's called democracy, where everyone can be free.
We vote and we choose,
we win and we lose, But we stand together,
no matter the weather.
Democracy, equality, for you and me, Hand in hand,
we'll make a stand. No one left behind, in our hearts, in our mind,
Together we're strong, forever we'll belong.
In democracy's light, we shine so bright,
Every voice is heard, every heart is stirred.
We're equal, you see, no matter who we'll be,
In a world of peace, where hatred will cease.
We decided to design a graffiti with our poem. We asked for a permission af course. DEVREK BİLİM VE SANAT MERKEZİ/ZONGULDAK

After doing the graffiti study, we decided to go to a village in Athens with the permission of our camp president. When we came to the village, we saw a school and entered the school. We met the school teacher. We introduced ourselves. The teacher was very pleased to meet us.

In the afternoon, Eirini wanted to show her friends the Acropolis.
Athens is the city that gave birth to democracy, and the Parthenon is its most glorious creation. But democracy in my country, Greece, has been threatened many times.

Here is the Polytechnic. 50 years ago, students rose against the military dictatorship. Their struggle involved all the people. And although the uprising ended in bloodshed, the students managed to restore democracy in Greece. The Polytechnic students' revolt for democracy should be a model of strength for all of us, because with our struggle we can change the world!

The children continued their walk...

Paz mentioned that 50 years ago, in Portugal, we finally had a Democracy in our country too, ending decades of dictatorship. In Portugal, it was a peaceful revolution made by the military.
Despite being an independent country since 1143, recognised by the Pope in 1147, Portugal has only had a democracy for the past 50 years after 60 years of dictatorship and centuries of monarchy. Paz is so happy because she can vote, go to the university, be independent and free thanks to the carnation revolution.

After every student talked about their countries' democracy way, all students in the camp understood that each country has its own unique democracy, shaped by its history ,culture, and form of government. The representative of various democratic countries made students feel happy and they learned many things from each other.
