The bell rang and the students of the 6-B grade filled the classroom with excitement. Today was the speech day of the candidates for the school assembly elections.

 "My dear friends," Ayşe began, "If you elect me as Jul to the school council, I will work to make our school a cleaner and more orderly place. I also aim to make our school a more fun place by organizing more social events."

Ayşe, one of the most diligent students of the class, excitedly moved towards the lectern.

After Ayşe, Ali, one of the funniest students in the class, took the podium.

 While the class was echoing with laughter, Elif, one of the quietest students in the class, also moved towards the lectern.

"Okulumuzdaki her öğrencinin sesinin duyulmasını istiyorum. Beni seçerseniz, herkesin fikirlerini dinlerim ve okulumuzu birlikte daha iyi bir yer haline getiririz."

Adayların konuşmalarının ardından öğrenciler arasında hararetli tartışmalar başladı. Herkesin en iyi adayın kim olduğu konusunda farklı fikirleri vardı. Bazıları Ayşe'nin projelerini beğenirken, bazıları da Ali'nin şakalarına gülüyordu. Elif'in sakin ve düşünceli yaklaşımı da bazı öğrencilerin dikkatini çekmişti.

Öğretmenleri öğrencilere seçimlerin önemini hatırlattı ve herkesin oyunu özgürce kullanması gerektiğini vurguladı. Seçim günü geldiğinde öğrenciler sırayla oylarını kullandılar. Sonuçlar heyecanla beklenirken herkesin aklında aynı soru vardı: "Acaba kim kazanacak?"

To learn the answer,students gathered at the school garden.Their teacher appeared at the door. There was a ballot box on her hand. Excitement was on the top.She put the box on the table in front of the students.

During this time,candidates were near the table.They were waiting the election result like others. Ayşe thought the elections of countries.  She gave speech and gave promises to her friends like candidates who were in her country.She understood importance of the elections because they were voice of the public.

While the candidates were waiting excitedly at the table also, Ali was imagining that he won the election. With the excitement of winning, he started to create new projects in his mind. He would make sure all his friends were happy by organizing music and dance events at school. Meanwhile; Elif like other candidates, was waiting for the election result with curiosity and excitement.

Sonunda beklenen an geldi ve Öğretmen sandıkları açtı. Oylar sayıldı ve ardından sonuç açıklandı. Elif beklenmedik bir şekilde büyük bir oy farkıyla seçildi. Hem Ali hem de Ayşe çok şaşırmıştı. Elif lider olarak göreve başlamadan önce şu sözleri söyledi; "Bugün burada sadece ben kazanmadım, hepimiz kazandık. Çünkü hepimizin sesine değer verildi." Elif'in seçilmesi okulda bir değişimin başlayacağının işaretiydi.

Elif, Can'ın sorusuyla bir an duraksadı. "Bu çok önemli bir soru," diye düşündü. "Gerçekten de herkesin sesini duyurmak için ne yapabilirim?" Elif, sınıf temsilcileriyle birlikte beyin fırtınası yapmaya karar verdi. Herkesin fikirlerini özgürce paylaşabileceği bir ortam yaratmak istiyordu. İlk olarak, her sınıftan bir temsilcinin düzenli olarak toplanacağı bir "Öğrenci Meclisi" kurmayı önerdi. Bu mecliste, öğrencilerin sorunları, istekleri ve önerileri tartışılacak ve çözümler üretilecekti.  Ayrıca, okulun çeşitli yerlerine "Öneri Kutuları" yerleştirerek,                                     A. öğrencilerin anonim olarak da fikirlerini paylaşabilmelerini sağlamayı planladı.Elif, her ay düzenli olarak "Açık Mikrofon" etkinlikleri düzenlemeyi de düşündü. Bu etkinliklerde, öğrenciler istedikleri konular hakkında konuşabilecek, şarkı söyleyebilecek veya şiir okuyabileceklerdi. Böylece, herkesin kendini ifade etme fırsatı bulacağı bir ortam yaratılacaktı. Elif, bu projeleri hayata geçirirken, her zaman öğrencilerin geri bildirimlerini dikkate alacağını ve onların istekleri doğrultusunda hareket edeceğini vurguladı.

A Voice for Every Student – Our Democratic Life Council

Giuseppe and the students of the High School of Tropea wanted to give real meaning to the concept of democracy in school. This is how the “Democratic Life Council” was born — a space for listening and dialogue, where class representatives meet regularly to discuss important topics: inclusion, sustainability, wellbeing, and active participation.

Elif continued the open mic events by inviting the teachers, school principal and parent representatives later on. In the second event, the students said their requests one by one. Ali, the funny student of the class, said his dream of showing an open air cinema. Ayşe said let's do social events.

The school principal said let's make a request box for them, children. Let's put this box somewhere at the entrance of the school and let everyone write their request and put it in it, let's present the request that comes out the most in this box to our school assembly and try to fulfill it, and at that moment there was a big applause.

"Demokratik Yaşam Konseyi", geri dönüşüm programları ve spor günleri gibi fikirlerle dolup taşan öneri kutularıyla okulun kalbi haline geldi. Elif ve temsilciler, Ali'nin aylık açık hava sineması ve Ayşe'nin gizli yıldızları ortaya çıkaran yetenek yarışması da dahil olmak üzere en iyi teklifleri hayata geçirdi. Bu çabalar okulu daha canlı hale getirdi ve her öğrencinin fikrinin önemli olduğunu kanıtladı.

Elif’s quiet resolve turned her into an inspiring leader. The “Öğrenci Meclisi” meetings became vibrant spaces for sharing dreams and solving problems. By year’s end, the principal made the council permanent, praising the students’ commitment to democracy. As they cheered, the students realized their school was a community where every voice could drive change.

For them, that wasn't enough. If they wanted this change be permanent and be an example for all the community, they realized that they had to use new technology to make public to everyone the function of this council. So they uploaded in the site of school what did they managed , its benefits and they expressed their positive feelings about this. Also, they write about this activity, they made copies and all of them went in every point of their city to present this council.

The results were amazing. Many schools in the city managed to establish this kind of council. In the middle of next year, all these schools tried to cooperate. All together decided to solve in democratic way some of the problems in the city. They asked the help from the adults. They managed all people to respect their voices. They remembered to all the members of the community that we are Human and we have to respect other people's rights and try to create a better world more fair, equal,with justice, love and peace.

As time went on, the collaboration between the schools grew stronger. The students organized regular meetings, where representatives from each council gathered to discuss new ideas 

and initiatives. They

equal opportunities.

Their efforts inspired not only their peers but also teachers, parents, and local authorities. The movement spread beyond the city, reaching neighboring towns. What began as a simple initiative became a powerful example of how young voices, when united, can bring real 

change. The students proved 

that true leadership starts with empathy, dialogue, and a shared vision for a better future.

Okulda yapılan etkinlikler oldukça başarılı bir şekilde devam ediyordu

 ancak;   bir gün Mehmet, okul müdürünün yanında giderek:

- Merhaba öğretmenim

- Merhaba Mehmet

-Bugün Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde demokrasi konusunu işliyorduk. Öğretmenimiz bize demokrasinin ilkelerini anlattı. İlkelerden biri de çoğulculuktu. Oy çokluğunun önemli olduğunu ama azınlıklarında fikrinin dikkate alınması gerektiğini anlattı. 

Okul temsilcimiz olması için ben ve bazı yakın arkadaşlarım Ali'ye oy verdik. Yapılan etkinliklerde herkese söz hakkı veriliyor ama biz Ali'yi temsilcimiz olarak görmek istiyoruz. Mehmet'i dikkatle dinleyen müdür Mehmet'in saçını okşadı ve şöyle dedi:

- Sevgili Mehmet, haklısın çok önemli bir ilke bahsettiğin. Biliyorsun ki temsilcimiz seçilirken kurallarımızı belirlemiştik eğer oy çokluğu sağlanırsa seçimleri yineleyebiliriz ama sağlanmazsa herhangi bir değişiklik yapmayacağız. En adaletlisi bu.

Elif was continuing her school representation very well. She was taking into consideration the opinions of her friends and the council representatives from other schools. They were also continuing their monthly meetings. Their teachers were also supporting them with love. Mehmet said he wanted to help Elif and joined the council. Maybe he could be elected president next year.

Mehmet, demokrasi kulübüne katıldıktan sonra Elif'in faaliyetlerinin ne kadar etkili olduğunu fark etti. Demokrasinin, insanların kendi kendilerini yönetmesi anlamına geldiğini zaten öğrenmişti. Şimdi Mehmet, okulda söz sahibi bir grup öğrencinin olmasından çok etkileniyordu. Evet, bu gruba katılmalı ve demokratik bir yaşam için mücadele etmeliydi. Artık Mehmet'in de Elif gibi büyük hayalleri vardı.
