In the 4th century A.D the capital city
of Georgia was Mtskheta, and the king was
Vakhtang Gorgasali.

The king loved hunting and often went hunting
near the capital city where he could find different
animals and birds.

The king hunted with his falcon that
was very quick at catching animals and
birds.
One day King Vakhtang went hunting
to the place where Tbilisi is situated now.

The day was fine. The sun was
shining in the blue sky. It was wonderful
around. The forest was quiet. The animals
were everywhere.

The king noticed a pheasant and shot it.
The falcon flew after the wounded bird.

The king followed the birds. He found
them in the spring.When he came near the
water, he saw that the water was hot and
sulphur. Both birds were boiled.

The king Vakhtang decided to move
the capital city in this place and called
it Tbilisi.

In Georgian "Tbili" means "warm"
so the king named the city after the
warm sulphur spring his falcon
and pheasant had fallen in.

This is the legend how
Tbilisi was founded in the 4-5th
centuries.
