Dedicated to All Nepali Young Learners

Dorje, A Boy from Rolwaling
Dorje is from Rolwaling, a far eastern village of Nepal. He reads in grade four.
He had lost his father when he was just 6 months old and now he is at his 8. He loves his mother very much, and so does she.
His school is an hour walk from his home. He loves going to school to learn new things every single day. Early in the morning, he feeds cattle and helps his mother before he leaves home for school. And in the evening, he helps his mother, revises what he has learnt and goes to bed. This is how his days are passing.
But one day, something unfortunate happens to Dorje when he was along at his home.
He feels a kind of shaking. He can't control himself. He clutches the beam heavily as he is inside his home. After a while, he hears people screaming, and great bangs and thuds on the ground. The walls of his home slowly starts falling. Now he starts crying. He sees the open sky from his room as the roofs have gone. After a shake stops, he sees all around the debris and debris only .
All of a sudden, he remembers his teacher talking about earth quake some time ago.
He starts crying. Poor Dorje has lost his house!
After a while, he slowly comes down sliding on debris. But... as he doesn't find his mother, he starts shouting, ' Mammaaaa..., Mamaaaa Ho... Mamma... Mamma Ho'
But he sees none!
As he hears no voice, he keeps on crying. He wipes out his tears with the sleeve of his shirt.
He becomes so desperate and runs to the neighbour Nonetheless, what he finds are all the debris there.
After a short while, he sees his mother coming from downhill. Thanks god she is safe! He becomes immensely happy and shouts, 'Mamma Ho!'
'Ye::s, my darling!,' hails mother from the distance.
Both, seeing each other safe, start crying in happiness and run, hug each other tightly for some time and after a while, they fix their eyes towards home. Now there is nothing except they two on the ground. After a while, poor Dorje sobbingly says, 'Mama,... where can we sleep, umm... tonight?'
Dorje's mother looks at him, wipes his tears with her one end of Sari and says in a trembling voice, 'Don't worry. Umm, I , umm..., we will build home for ... tonight, and we will build new one ...soon. Alright dear!'
That night, they sleep outside under the open sky, and in the early morning with a heavy heart, Dorje helps mother to dig out and get the buried food and other utensils.
They could manage to find some but mixed with all mud and the most of the utensils were damaged.
These days poor Dorje and his mother are living in a small hut built next to debris. Everyday any passer-by can see smoke swirling out of a makeshift hut in the morning and evening. Now this hut is everything for Dorje and his mother.
Dorje, after a few days remembers his school. He has nothing now to carry to the school. Everything got buried and they couldn't find his books and pencils. However, he decides to go to school next day.

Early in the morning after he is done with his breakfast, he sets out for the school. When he reaches, he sees all the debris. His eyes are filled with water. They start getting rolled down the cheek. He remembers his dream which he had dreamt in the very beginning of this grade that he would teach in this school and help other.
He becomes so dejected. He sits on the ground fixing eyes on the debris for some time. He cannot remember anything now.
Nothing. Just nothing!,
Nowadays, Dorje is studying in a temporarily-built school made up of bamboos which their teachers and all of them could build. However, they have not got enough learning materials.
He hopes one day, he will have good school again and some books and pencils that he needs.
