Its' incredible history begins in ancient times: the Neolithic (5000 years ago).

Milestone

In the Middle Ages, Baião was created, property of one of the most important families in Portugal.

In 1513, the king D. Manuel I conceeded the charter letter to Baião.

We can find many elements that report us to those days.

The House of Tormes (Eça de Queirós Foundation)

The house was inherited by Eça's wife, after her mother's decease, in 1890.

They never lived in the house, but Eça visited it twice and it became the scenario of one of his most popular novels "A Cidade e as Serras".

Nowadays, the house shelters some furniture that belonged to the writer and is visited by turists (portuguese and foreign).

Baião is a county deeply marked by Christianism, specially by the Catholic Church, since its foundation.

Santa Maria de Ermelo Ruins

The county's patron is St. Bartholomew and is celebrated on the 24th of August.

Ancede is part of the county of Baião and has 2836 inhabitants.

The locality shares several trace elements of romanization and of the foundation of Portugal and the Catholic influence in the county.

Ancede is where our school is located.

This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of our school.
