An Impossible Love

Chapter 1

The first summer

Sophia is a girl that every summer goes to his grandparents' house in the countryside. One day, when she was 8, she was playing with a ball, when the ball went into the forest and she entered to find it. When she found it, she realized that she had got lost and she started to cry. An amalgam heard her and he went to help her. When Sophia saw him , she tried to give him

a hug, but he moved away. He accompanied her to the house. She was bewildered, who was him?

Suddenly, she felt that her mum was angry with her. When she noticed, she was more confused.

-Mum, who was he?

-Sophia, what are you talking about? When I found you, you were alone.

When Sophia heard that, she got shocked. She knew that there was someone, but who?

Chapter 2

The old friend

After that, Sophia went into the forest to meet her old friend. She never knew his name, but she didn't matter at all. Sometimes she faked to get lost to draw attention. As years passed, all between them changed, except that Sophia couldn't touch the amalgam. She didn't know that and she couldn't touch him even to give him a surprise. When she tried it , she always failed and she always bumped.

After that, she laughed at herself and he smiled in a weird way, he smiled but not so much. One day, when Sophia was 13, the amalgam took her to a clear with a pond, where the sun reflected on the water. It was beautiful. While she was walking around the pond, she saw some precious flowers and she crouched to see them better. Suddenly, the amalgam extended his arm to give her a flower that was more lovely than the others.

She was pleased about it. And she tried to hug him, but he moved away again, and she fell into the water, then she started to laugh.

Chapter 3

The birthday

It was Sophia's 15th birthday and some of her family members, some friends and, especially, the amalgam were invited. It was a fantastic party, the family was talking, Sophia's friends were dancing and everybody was enjoing the party except for Sophia, because her old friend had not appeared and she was sad about that. Why hadn't he appeared?

She was very disappointed about that. So she decided to go outside. Suddenly, when she was looking at the nightly sky, the amalgam appeared, standing on the stone fence.

-Why are you late? The party started a long time ago. Come on, lets go in.

The amalgam didn't answer, he was standing there looking at the sky. He gave her a piece of paper, it was very old. Sophia unfolded it and she read the text that was written on it.

Chapter 4

The truth

When she read the text, she understood all, she understood why that creature moved away when she tried to hug him. The text said:

"The amalgams are mystic creatures that live with humans, but they don't let themselves be seen by humans, because, if a human touches them, they will disappear forever".

She understood it then, he didn't let her touch

him because if she touched him, he would disappear forever and she wouldn't see him anymore. That information affected Sophia and she started to cry. Suddenly the door started to open and the amalgam noticed it and he left her alone, there were her parents, they were searching for her, they saw her crying and they hugged her. She felt better.

-'I will enter in one moment', she said while her parents were going in. 'I have to go in so see you later.'

Sophia opened the door and she turned back and smiled while she was saying goodbye.

Chapter 5

The last summer

Sophia was 16 years old and her mother said that it would be her last summer in her grandparents' house, because she had to work during the summer to pay for her studies. She got shocked about that news. It was awful, she wouldn't ever see her old friend. She went outside running and her mother told her to stop, but she didn't stop. She had to find the amalgam to tell him the news.

She ran a lot, she was exhausted, but she didn't find him. Then she thought about the pond and she went there. The amalgam was looking at a flower similar to the one he had given Sophia, he was spinning it by the stem. He was thinking about his relationship with her, suddenly, he realized that he loved Sophia. Surprisingly, Sophia realized that she loved him too. When she found him, she called him, and he turned back surprised and then, Sophia, with tears in her eyes told him the news

'This... this is my last summer with you, even the last day perhaps, my mother has just told me and I have thought that it could be a nice idea to tell you; and I have to tell you one more important thing ...' She took a break and then she continued. 'I... I love you, these summers you have always been with me and that could be the reason of my love.'

She looked down, she took her hands to her face, and she started to cry. Then she saw that the amalgam opened his arms offering her a hug and she didn't refuse it, even knowing what

would happen if she, a human, hugged an amalgam. She ran to him and she embraced him while he was disappearing. Just before vanishing for eternity he said 'I love you too, Sophia'.
