It was a wonderful morning, as wonderful as humdrum for Mary. Mary was the woman of Anboto mountain, she was 253 years old and she lived bored in her mountain.

Her hair was curly and as red as a rose and she had brown and tiny eyes. She used to wear a beautiful green dress and walk without shoes.

That morning Mary wrote a letter to Basajaun, the forest guardian.

“Hello, Basajaun!.

I´m writing because I want to tell you something. I have been very bored lately and I would like to have some change in my life: a funny holiday, a party with friends, a trip full of adventures, I don´t know

As you have always lived in the mountains, I thought it will be great if we plan something together, something different far away. If you agree, you can come to visit me and we will have a talk.

Mary”

Two days later,  Basajaun arrived at Mary´s house. He was very excited about the plan with Mary, because he loved her very much.

• Morning, Mary!. I´ve been very busy lately, bus as soon as I read you letter, I ran to you. - Basajaun said to the girl.
• Hi, Basajaun! What do you think about my proposal? - Mary asked.
• To tell the truth, I love your proposal! How did you think about that, Mary? -He wanted to know.
• Sometimes, boredom in the mountains make you have good ideas! I just felt like to go around the world, far away from these mountains. - she explained.
• So, get your suitcase ready for the trip and we´ll meet at Antimuño! - he said.

In the next morning, they met anxious for leaving the mountains. Their trip didn´t have a fixed destination and as it was going to be a long journey, they decided to talk about myths and legends in Antimuño. Basajaun knew a lot about Tartalo, so he started his story...

• A good story, Basajaun! I´m impressed.

Tartalo was an one-eyed giant who lived in a cold dark cave. All people in town were afraid of him,... everyone except two young boys. One day, those boys decided to go to Tartalo´s cave. They arrived at the same time Tartalo reached the cave, and suddenly Tartalo caught the oldest boy and ate him!. The youngest boy ran away after sticking a knife in Tartalo´s  only one eye. Tartalo ran after the boy, but he tripped over a stone and fall down along a ravine. Most of people think Tartalo died, but some people say he still lives in the cave.

Great idea! - he answered.

After having some dinner, they were telling more stories about old legends when they suddenly met Tartalo in the cave. They ran as quickly as they could, but Tartalo got to catch Mary. Basajaun got away, but after a while he started to regret to have left Mary alone in the cave. So he decided to take his magic ax and rescue Mary from Tartalo.

When Basajaun reached the cave, Tartalo was waiting for him. Tartalo, with his extraordinary strenght, and Basajaun, with his magic weapon and shuddering voice, broke a terrible fight out and they were exhausted and badly wounded at the end. During the fight, Mary went out and she killed Tartalo using Basajaun´s magic ax.

After that, Basajaun and Mary decided to return to their mountains, but they did not ever live bored, because the lived together and in love for ever and ever.
