There was a Turkish family living in Bulgaria. They had a child whose name is Naim. He was thin but very strong. He was happy to show his strength. Always he carried all packages his mother bought from the bazaar. When he started to school, he was hardworking student. He was also glad to to show his strength in school. His friends were surprised with his strength.

His mother and father were aware of his strength, and they wanted to get their son benefit from his strength in the future but they didn’t know how to do it. Naim’s father had a friend who was weight-lifter. He offered to help Naim to improve his strength. He wanted to make him a good sportsman. But his parents were ancious about this because being a weight-lifter needs to work so hard.

That night they talked with him about hardness of being weight-lifter. But he was determined to be successful. He practiced so hard that at the age of 15 he became national sportsman who won many international races. In many races he broke the records ans he has named as “pocket Hercules”. He has become good example for Turkish youth. He knows that key point of being successful keep your dreams and work hard.

The pocket Hercules is curious about the other sportsmen/women who have become successful in spite of struggles they faced. He wants to meet them and listen their stories. With this aim, he has made a research about them. He wants to start his travel with Şahika Ercümen who has become a successful diver in spite of her illness. Şahika Ercümen got a phone from Naim Süleymanoğlu who has named as pocket hercule. He wants to see and listen her story to tell and encourage young people. Şahika is very excited about telling her story.
Underwater is so unique for Şahika ERCÜMEN that she expresses this feeling with the following words “

I find myself in a different place from the moment I go underwater .And when ı go deeper I feel the sea embracing me even more. Breaking records is nice but the most important thing for me is the way the sea make me feel. It's unparalleled. I guess my life didn't truly start when ı took my first breath. It started when I held it”.
Şahika was born january,1985. As a little child she was never scared of water, she loved it.Till the age of 7, she had to be continuously treated with medication... Then the doctors decided that she couldn't keep doing this for any longer. So,they have sent her to İstanbul. Her familiy consulted with medical proferssons and had all sorts of tests made. They found out that she had asthma allargies which is bronchial asthma.

Thankfully, when she was 12,the vaccination treatment was finished. She also finished her primary school at that time. That summer she wanted to join the Çanakkale underwater club. She attended the preparatory course for a few days. She told that the trainer really like her and would probably let her join the team directly. So without any kind of preparatory course she joined the Çanakkale underwater team

From that day on...Apparently,she has allargies when she is not in the water...But underneath she is fine and very happy. She found her cure in the deep blue. Her mother says her Zodiac sign is fish and her child has also turned into one.
Şahika, who has ‘allergic asthma’ as achild, overcomes this disease with the necessary vaccines and treatments and starts to engage in water sports with a great curiosity. Our record holder, who started to develop herself by entering the necessary amateur teams and groups, makes us proud by taking all her labor.

The pocket hercule is very excited from Şahika’s success despite her illness. He started to looking for new and young heroes. Şahika and Naim heard that İbrahim Çolak won a golden medal in artistic jimnastic and be a shampion of the World for the first time in our country’s history. So pocket hercule gets a phone call İbrahim Çolak, and hits the roads.

The first significant victory came in 2008 with a junior semi-final at the Australian Open and in May 2008, Iwon two junior tournaments: ITF 10,000 in Bucharest and the Trofeo Bonfiglio tournament. Four months before turning 18, I climbed to the highest level in the Junior world rankings with the Roland Garros junior title.

I’m maturing, I’m no longer a child. I’m 27 years old and I’ve been through a lot in all these years. I feel ready for life. My trust in myself increased, so I started to be different. We all change with the passing of years. I cannot stay the same as a few years ago, especially since I am very eager to learn. I always knew what I intended, I knew what I wanted to do with my life, but I had a few issues regarding the communication side. Now it’s easier for me and I’m trying to be even better. In the end, the meaning of life is to see how good you can be in all chapters.

I, myself absolves middle and secondary grade in the high school for girls in Arnavutköy, where my family has moved into a spacious Köşk (Form of Villa), made of red wood on the Bosporus. At least then it was situated directly on the sea front, nowadays a noisy big motorway is dividing it from the water.

Since moving here in 1930 I started to train fencing at the nearby English spoken Robert-College. As a fencer taking part in the Berlin Games in 1936, I was one of the first Turkish women participating in Olympic Games. This brings an unusual turn in my life.

For the Turkish fencers the 1936 Olympic adventure ends without medals. Nevertheless through their participation the young girls give the world an impression about how much the country has changed.

"I am Halet Çambel. This is my life..."
