Not a long time ago,a small stray puppy lived in a town just like yours.
It had no name, as well as no family and friends.
It was a very lonely little creature, whose biggest dream was to find its "humans".
Its favourite place in town was the school yard - it loved watching the children playing and laughing, learning and talking to friends.

One morning, Chiara went to school and found the cute dog in front of the school gate. It was so painful, the puppy was so sad because nobody wanted to play with it! It was hungry and thirsty.
She put it in her schoolbag and she went to her classroom. The young girl was at primary school, she was nine years old. But the little brown, white, grey, blue-eyed puppy started barking from the bag.
Was he afraid of the dark?
Everyone wondered where the noise came from.
-"What is this noise?" asked the teacher.
-"There is certainly a dog in the yard!" said Chiara.

The children were very afraid that the dog would be taken out of school. But the teacher offered to feed the new student in the classroom. Children shared their breakfasts with their new friend.

The children sat in a circle on the floor. The dog had never been happier and jumped from one child to another wagging his tail like a fan in a hot summer day. Nothing could have been more perfect, the teacher was thrilled to watch her pupils giggling and the blue-eyed puppy licking Chiara's nose, the little kind girl who had rescued him.
Out of the blue, in the school yard, a loud engine noise was heard followed by a squeal of brakes...

The shelter workers arrived, as someone called and said that a homeless puppy was walking in the school yard. They started asking where the puppy was. The staff said that he was walking somewhere near the trees. The workers began to look for him but could not find him. A girl appeared on the street with a puppy who joyfully hopped around her. The school director saw this dog. Pupils asked to leave the dog at school.
By common decision, the dog lives and grows in this school. Since then, this puppy has become a symbol of the school. After talking with the headmaster, the teacher informed the children that they had decided to adopt the puppy.

They will build it a special place to stay in the school yard and each student would be responsible for it. In a hurry, everybody helped the headmaster to build a comfortable dog kennel with some pieces of colourful wood. The school decided that each student would be responsible for feeding the dog and whenever the little puppy needed to go to the vet, someone would take care of it. Later that day, when the officer came back he couldn´'t find any stray dog around, he searched and searched everywhere and the only animal he saw was a happy puppy with a beautiful leash saying: I'm Chips the new school's mascot and I'm feeling good! Finally the little puppy seemed to have a cozy house and caring tutors to love him.

The summer holiday will be soon. The children started to worry what will happen with their dog. They can`t leave it for so long alone at school, nobody will take care of their puppy. Again they need to find a good solution before they will go for summer camps and they have to do it very quickly...

One of the girls in class, Charlie, said: "We don't go on holiday, so I can take him home." Tom, whose parents are rich, didn't agree: "Why should you take him home. We have got a big house and a big garden where the dog can play. We can give him the best food, so I think he should come with me. Our maid can go for a walk with him and take care of him when we go on a trip."
The children started a big discussion who should take the dog for the holidays.

Because both Charlie and Tom were determined to take good care of the puppy for the summer, the teacher wanted to talk to their parents. In conclusion, she phoned them.
After a short and fruitful negotiation, it was decided that Charlie should take the dog. Certainly, this was possible on the condition that Tom was permitted to see it anytime and bring food and toys or any necessary stuff. Also, Charlie and the sweet dog were more than welcome to pay visits to Tom's large house and beautiful garden, during the holiday. Their lovely pet could enjoy all the love he could get from everyone and enjoy maximum of attention from so many warm-hearted people around him!

A few days later, the parents watched their child and his great responsibility and care. The parents thought and discussed this new event in their family for a long time and finally decided that they had great conditions to have a pet in their house. Charlie was allowed to take a dog. Tom was a wonderful caring boy, and was able to look after and feed the dog when Charlie and Chips were welcome to his garden. When mom and dad finally told Tom this news, he wanted to fly into the sky like a balloon of joy. He ran around the garden, screaming with happiness and imagining how he would do it with his Charlie and Chips any time he wanted! The parents called the teacher, thanked her for the great idea, and apologized for thinking for a while.
