This book is created to present our classroom activities during Step #2 of Out of Eden Learn,
Learning Journey 1, 2019-2020.

Paul Salopek asked us to create a neighborhood map.

Our first activity was to discuss the difficulties of his journey. The children focused on his shoes and we attempted to use the Thinking Routine
"Step Inside" .
So they decided what kind of shoes they would select to wear if they were traveling alongside Paul...
We prefer sport shoes to protect our feet from the sand and any broken glass... But we like them colorful!

We would wear our own shoes and sandals because we like them!

I want my purple slippers with the butterflies!

Our second activity was to observe some of the places that Paul has visited on his journey. We applied the Thinking Routine
"See - Think - Wonder"
and tried to do some 'slow looking' using the photos in the Milestone 19.

We saw a tunnel, a street, two trucks, a man and a chair. We saw houses on a hill and cars at its foot. We saw a gas station and two people refueling the car.

We thought a house was hiding behind a tree because it was old and made of metal...
We thought there was a statue that looked like a Christmas tree without a star...
We thought the gas station was also a garage for cars, trucks and motorcycles...

We wondered about the dark house... Could it have been burned?
We also wondered about the big white building... What could it be?
Our next activity focused on our own neighborhood.
The children talked about their favorite places and then drew pictures of their houses.
Finally a task was set which involved photographing these places with the aid of the kids' parents. All photos and drawings were used to create our neighborhood map.

The open-air gym near the Olympic Venue of the Weightlifting Events of the 2004 Olympic Games.

Our neighborhood church and the nearby playgrounds.
A nice seafood restaurant which we love because of its fried squid...

Our beloved park! Great for running, playing, cycling, meeting friends... Just 5 minutes away!
The supermarket that we all visit and a mini market near the school.

And of course...
our school!

Then it was time to actually create our neighborhood map.
We painted the streets and glued our collage of houses and favorite places.
And it is finally ready!
