MISS DORA ASKS FOR HELP (STEM activity)

After reading an adventurous story that was made up by their teacher, in which Mrs Dora was looking for her students on a hot air balloon during the quarantine period, the students had to find a solution to her feeding problem for as long as she was on air. Of course, in a tele-meeting that followed, the students were led to make connections with a possibility to have a similar solution while travelling in space.

In this STEM activity the students had to help their teacher survive, while she was on a hot air balloon over the Cretan Sea. They suggested her to plant her lentils instead of eating them all at once.

Of course, like good scientists, they made hypothesis, made a plan, and finally they tested their suggestions! Their teacher couldn't be prouder!

We recorded the weather during quarantine, while having to stay at home.

We also made up stories how the little students could fight the corona virus that affected human lives on Earth.

We read the story of Phaethon, the son of the Sun. We narrated it, we crafted the scenes, and played it.

We read books about the Sun and our solar system.

We created with the papier mache technique our own Sun and the planets for our solar system.

We made lapbooks with information and stories about the Sun and our solar system.

We made up our own imaginary planet, organised our space travel, thought about how our home-planet, Earth, would look from up there, and finally we wrote our own imaginary stories.
