The Hall of Mirrors (La Grande Galerie) originally served as a passageway and a meeting and waiting place. it was used for special occasions, such as balls,
weddings, or games.

The Apollo salon, made for the sun god, is one of the most luxurious roomsin the palace. Many of the artifacts previously in the room were melted down
including the silver 2.6 meter high throne that belonged to Louis XIV

Louis moved his bedroom to a previous drawing room in order to seethe sun rise every morning. Everyday the king's rising and retiring
rituals took place here. It was in this chamber that Louis XIV died on
September 1, 1715. His reign lasted 72 years.

The Queen's chamber was where she spent most of her time. Along withthe king, the queen also had morning and night rituals. 19 French royals
have been born in this room.

The entrance to the queen's chamber is through the guard room.Day and night, twelve guards patrolled this room, ensuring the
queen's safety.

Louis XV had interest in science and astronomy. The clock in this roomwas presented to the king in 1754. The extraordinary clock shows the time,
day of week, month, year, and moon's quarter. The clock was used to develop
the first kingdom wide system of time.

Louis XV gave dinners here for the lords and ladieswho came on "the hunt" with him.It was a high honor
to be invited to these dinners.

The library was one of Louis XIV's favorite rooms. He had aninterest in science and geography. He would even sit in the
library and draw corrections on maps.

Each day at 10 a.m. the king would hold mass in the royal chapel.The king sat in the royal gallery, and only came down for important
religious ceremonies. The paintings in the chapel portray the idea
that the king was chosen by God.

The Opéra Royal was made for both parties and performances. The room can hold 1,336 audience members.
The theater is made entirely of wood, so the acoustics are
very good. The first performance took place on May 17, 1770

The congress room was built to house the Parliament and NationalAssembly. Since then it has had many different purposes, including
presidential speeches and addresses.

The Latona fountain represents the legend of Apollo's motherand Diana protecting their children against the insults of peasants.
They asked Jupiter for help and he turned the peasants to frogs
and lizards. Sculpted by the Marsy brothers.
