Gene was born May 31,1941 at Hadley Hospital in Hays Kansas. He was raised in Zurich Kansas.

Gene was a carefree child. He enjoyed riding his bicycle and helping out his grandpa on the farm.

When Gene grew up he wanted to be a train engineer because it looked exiting but simple to do.

Christmas on his grandpas farm was his favorite childhood memory. No one got much for presents, but he was happy for what he did get.

Both of his parents worked so they could have money. His father was a welder and his mother worked at his school in the kitchen with his two aunts.

Gene had three brothers and a sister. growing up he mostly got hand me downs from his two older brothers.

His hero growing up was Gene Autry which is who is parents named him after.

In high school Gene was on the football and basketball team school was hard for him but he enjoyed it.

His grandpa was the biggest influence on his life because he spent most of his time with him on the farm.

Gene joined the Army after school. He trained in Texas for four months, but never got any active duty. He stayed in the army for six years.

Gene graduated from Brown Mackie Collage for Business Administration.

Gene met his wife Elaine while in collage and they got married in 1961.

In 1968 they gave birth to a little boy and named him Terry Gene Stithem.

Elaine was fighting ovarian cancer for about a year. The chemo was making her sick so she decided to stop taking it even thought she knew that would mean she would soon die.

She died March 4,1988 at the age of 46 in her bedroom with gene by her side.

Gene remarried Rejeana in 1995 and they are still happily married to this day.

The most important lesson he has learned in life is that nothing in life is for free and that life isn't fair.

Genes favorite job was at Gamble Robinson Grocery store. The job that he retired with was the postal service.

Genes proudest moment was when he made the first string on the All Star Football Team for class B teams.

His biggest regret was that his wife died and he worked night shift so he didn't get to spend as much time with his family as he wished he could of.

One piece of advice that he would give teenagers would be to stay away from drugs because he has seen it ruin may peoples lives.
