Once there was a little frog named Freddie who was
born in a clump of eggs at the pond. He spent his
days soaking up the sunshine and making new
friends. Freddie and Chris the cricket became best
friends while he grew into an embryo and waited to
break free from the egg.

A floating clump of eggs is called frog spawn.

Fish eat small clumps ofeggs.

Freddie grew into a wiggly little tadpole who
enjoyed using his tail to dart around the pond.
His gills were shrinking and he was slowly
growing his legs.

Tadpoles breathe by gettingair from the water through
gills. Tadpoles are vegetarians that eat
algae.

After a couple of months Freddie lost his tail
and he grew from a tiny tadpole to a frog. His
friends enjoyed playing with him around the
pond. Freddie could use his new powerful hind
legs to push himself through the water.

Now the frog has grown lungs to breathe. He is not
a vegetarian anymore, now
he eats insects and worms.

People were coming to visit the pond and they
would leave their trash. The pond became so
polluted the animals were getting sick. Freddie
and Chris the cricket decided to try to find a
new pond. They would find a clean place to live
and invite all of their friends.

They traveled through the edge of the woods
where they met Hootie the owl. They shared
their plan to find a new home since their pond
was drying up. Hootie said he would come
along to help them find a pond. He could fly up
and see things from a different view.

Frogs are amphibians. Amphibian means "two
lives". Frogs can live on
land or in water.

They traveled through the dark scary woods.
Hootie didn't mind the woods since they were
his home. Freddie and Chris the cricket kept a
watchful eye out for any predators. A bat
swooped down from the tops of the trees and
Freddie and Chris hopped as quickly as their
legs would carry them.

Look out!
Frogs can jump ten times their body length.

Finally at last they came to the top of a hill at
the edge of the woods. There, just beyond the
town they could see something shimmering in
the distance. Hootie flew ahead to see if it was
a new pond.

Some owls eat frogs.
He was so overjoyed to discover it was a clean
new pond that he quickly flew back to tell his
friends. Together they traveled the rest of the
way to their new home.

Fun fact: Some big frogs can eat mice and rats.

This is one pretty new home!

Freddie found many new friends at his new
pond. Hootie flew back to tell the other
animals how to get to their new home.
Together they enjoyed their nice clean pond. It
didn't take long before Freddie was planning
their next adventure.

The End

are trying to find out what is
