Zonguldak Municipality Wastewater Treatment Plant has an average capacity of 34,000 m3 / day (maximum 46,680 m3 / day). The wastewater reaches the facility with a total of 9 Pumping Stations, 14,181 meters of gravity line and 4,612 meters of pressurized line. In the facility, 2 Grid Structures, 2 Sand Trap Pools, 2 Preliminary Sedimentation Pools, 1 Gravity Sludge Thickener Pools, 1 Distribution Structure, 2 Ventilated Advanced Biological Pools, 2 Final Sedimentation Pools, 2 Sludge Digesters, 1 Gas Balloons, 6 Blowers, 1 Sludge Building (Sludge Dewatering, Sludge Treatment and Sludge Pumps), 1 Cogeneration Unit, 1 Diesel Generator, 1 Gas Torch, 3 Chemical Tanks, 3 Poly Preparation Units Consists of the Information Building and the Administrative Building.
Grills
The wastewater coming to the facility first passes through the Grid Structure. There are 2 Coarse Screens, 2 Fine Screens and 2 Conveyors in the Grid Structure. Coarse materials (wood chips, nylon wastes, herbal wastes, kitchen wastes, etc.) in the wastewater are kept in the grids. These materials taken from wastewater are discharged into garbage containers with the help of a conveyor. Garbage containers are collected weekly by the garbage trucks belonging to Zonguldak Municipality and the waste is disposed of.
Aerated Grit and Oil Traps
The wastewater passing through the grid structure comes to the Aerated Sand and Oil Retainer. In Aerated Sand and Oil Retainer; There are 2 pools, 2 scraper bridges, diffusers for ventilation, 2 Sand Pumps, 4 Oil Pumps, 1 Oil Separator and 1 Sand Separator. The water passing through this structure is ventilated by blowers and oxygen is added to the water, it is ensured that the sand (inorganic wastes) in it collapses to the bottom and the oil remains on the surface. With the bridges on the structure, oil on the surface and sand settled on the floor are separated from the wastewater. The oils pass through the Oil Separator and the sand passes through the Sand Separator, and the waste collected from the wastewater is disposed of by garbage trucks belonging to the Zonguldak Municipality.
Pre-Settlement Pools
The wastewater passing through the aerated Sand and Oil Collector comes to the Pre-Settling Pools. In Pre-Settlement Pools; There are 2 Pools, 2 Scraper Bridges and 3 Mud Pumps. While the wastewater flows in the Pre-Sedimentation Pool, the organic wastes that can settle in it settle on the bottom of the pool and the settled sludge (organic waste) is collected by Scraper Bridges. Collected sludges are transferred to the Gravity Sludge Thickener by Mud Pumps.
Gravity Sludge Thickener
Sludge coming from Pre-Settlement Pools is collected in this section. There are 1 Pool, 1 Scraper Bridge and 2 Mud Pumps in the Gravity Sludge Thickener Pool. The incoming sludge is made more dense in this pool. The sludge settled on the floor is scraped from the floor by the Scraper Bridge and transferred to the Sludge Mixing Pool by the Sludge Pumps.
Aerated Advanced Biological Pools and Final Settling Pools
The wastewater coming from the Preliminary Settling Pools first comes to the Distribution Structure from here to the Aerated Advanced Biological Pools (2). Nitrogen and organic matter are removed in the aeration pools. Wastewater is aerated with blowers and provides oxygen to the water for bacteria. After the organic wastes in the wastewater are removed by the bacteria in the Aeration Pools, the wastewater is transferred from the Aeration Pools to the Final Settling Pools. Organic materials remaining in the wastewater coming to the Final Sedimentation Pool are ensured to settle to the bottom and phosphorus removal is performed. The sludge settled on the floor is scraped from the floor by Scraper Bridges and taken to the Recycle Mud chamber. Treated water passes into the Deep Sea Discharge structure by weir.
Distribution Structure
Distribution Structure consists of Reverse Circulation Mud Reservoir, 3 Reverse Cycle Mud Pumps, 3 Excess Mud Pumps, Sea Discharge Structure and Flow Meter Manhole. It transfers the wastewater from the Pre-Sedimentation Pools to the Aerated Advanced Biological Treatment Pool, returns some of the sludge formed in the Final Sedimentation Pool to the Aeration Pools, and pumps the other part to the Excess Sludge Reservoir.
Mud Building and Mud Pools
Mud Pools; It consists of 1 Excess Mud Pool, 1 Mud Mixing Pool and 1 Corrupted Mud Pool. Also; There is 1 Mud Mixer for each pool. The sludge coming from the Pre-Sedimentation Pool and the biological sludge taken from the Final Settling Pool are mixed in the Sludge Mixing Pool and pumped into the Anaerobic Sludge Digestion Tanks (digester). The digested sludge formed in the Sludge Digestion Tanks is taken to the Corrupted Sludge Pool. Decayed sludge is dewatered with 2 Decanters located in the Mud Building and transferred to garbage containers or garbage trucks.

Anaerobic Sludge Digesters
The sludge from the Sludge Mixing Tank is pumped to Digesters where the sludge is decomposed by bacteria in an anaerobic environment. The desired sludge temperature for the living conditions of the bacteria is provided by the Heat Exchangers in the Boiler Room. The methane gas formed is stored in the Gas Balloon.
Gas Balloons
Gas Balloon; It consists of 2 balloons that will contain a protector on the outside and a methane gas on the inside. The stored gas is sent to the Gas Generator for electricity generation. In the case of excessive gas formation, the gas in the balloon is taken into the Gas Torch to be burned.
Gas Torch
Gas Torch is the unit where the excess gas formed is burned.
Gas Generator
It is the unit that converts methane gas obtained from sludge into electrical energy. It has been calculated that an average of 35% to 45% of the energy costs of the facility will be provided from here.
