The Women's Suffrage Movement was a time when woman decided that it was unfair that only men were able to vote and they realized that they wanted to do something about it.

What was the Women's Suffrage Movement?

What is voting?
Voting is a way you can use your voice. Being able to vote means that you can decide what things you like and what things you don't and you can give your answers to the people in charge. Then they decide from there.

When and where did it start?

Why did they have to fight to use their voice? Why couldn't they just have voting rights easily like men?
Because a long long time ago when this was happening, women were treated not as good as men were. Many people thought women didn't deserve to have the same things that men had.

Well that's not good. How many years did these women fight for?
They fought for 100 years. 100 years can also be called a century.

That's a really long time. Did anybody help them fight or did they do it all on their own?
Some countries like Germany and Canada helped the United States. They were some of the first to talk about making a change. Isn't that cool?

Are there any important people I should know that helped?
Yes, there are some very important people. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were two of many important women.

These two women made a newspaper together and they also started the National Women Suffrage Association, which is a big deal for women.
Wow! They sound like very strong women. What did they do when they started the National Woman Suffrage Association?

Oh I know! They traveled all over the world and talked about women's rights and how they should be able to vote like men.
Okay lets review what we learned today.

We learned that the Women's Suffrage Movement was a time when women fought back against the rights and that Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were very important in the change that happened.

That's all right! Don't forget that they were fighting for voting rights which men only had at the time.

And we learned that voting is a way that you can use your voice and it is very important which is why women fought for so many years to get the same rights as men.

One last thing! Don't forget that this started in the United States in 1848 and they fought for rights for 100 years which is also known as a century.
