Title of the Event: "Tsiknopebti"Celebration for the beginning of Carnival in Limassol

Aim: Collaboration between parents and school. Children to spend quality time with their parents.

Age of children:  4-6 years old

Necessary attributes or materials: carnival costumes, carnival music, barbeque materials, traditional food , celebration mood.

Description: Parents ' association cook barbeque  food for children at the yard of the school.  They all play together traditional games. Children sign to their parents and all dance together.

Methodological comments:When you cooperate with parents to create an events, it gives them the joy of participating more actively in their students school life.

Title of the Event:  Arts and STEM activities

Aim: Parents to understand the way we work, what activities students do for learning and how they are prepared for the primary school.

Age of children:  4-6 years old

Necessary attributes or materials:  bee bot, maps, pictures related to the theme, play dough, coloring pencils, watercolors, scissors etc.

Description: Our theme was "The human body, 5 senses and our feelings". We prepared creative activities. There where activities of science, technology using bee bot and maps, engineering and mathematics.

Methodological comments: When parents are participating in activities with their children, they can better understand how the school works and how they learn.

Title of the Event:  Santa Claus and Christmas Cookies

Aim: Parents to get involved in activities with their children and cooperate with school.  Parents to have fun and spend time with their children at school.

Age of children:  4-6 years old

Necessary attributes or materials:  santa claus costume, christmas songs, cd player, ingredients for the Christmas cookies.

Description: Santa Claus came to our kindergarten. One of the parents is dressed like Santa Claus and gives presents to children. Children sing and dance for the parents. Then parents go to the classrooms, and make Christmas cookies with their children.

Methodological comments: Parents get the satisfaction of doing things with their children.  They feel nice when cooperate with the school.

Title of the Event: Arts Exhibition

Aim: To develop creativity, entrepreneurship skills, independence and responsibility, self and peer reflection; to strengthen community of children, families, preschool staff.

Age of children: 1,5 to 6 years 

Necessary attributes or materials: Different art materials to create artwork and crafts; display area for exhibition of each child's work; space for workshops and games.

Description:  During a longer period children create different artwork, reflect on it and improve; choose some of the best work to be displayed at the exhibition. Teachers organize additional workshops for children and families, lead traditional games.

Methodological comments: If repeated another time, focus of exhibition could be changed e.g., jewelry, drawings and paintings, musical instruments.

Title of the Event: Family Day Event - Orienteering in a Forest

Aim: To develop artistic and presentation skills; to nurture appreciation and care for nature; to develop orienteering skills; to value families and collaboration.

Age of children: 1,5 to 6 years  

Necessary attributes or materials: Art materials to create family portraits and presents; topographical maps with points in the forest to be found.

Description:  Children prepare family portraits, presents and a short concert; teachers find a place for orienteering in nature, prepare topographical maps with points to be found, compasses and set outdoor exhibition.

Methodological comments: After orienteering families try to guess which is their portrait, enjoy concert and presents.

Title of the Event: Winter Festival

Aim: To develop responsibility and diligence; to participate in winter activities outdoors; to strengthen community of children, families and preschool staff.

Age of children: 1,5 to 6 years

Necessary attributes or materials:  Art, crafts and cooking materials for workshops; food for outdoor picnic.

Description: Children with their families and staff participate in games, bee wax candle making and gingerbread baking workshops, enjoy outdoor activities and picnic.

Methodological comments: Important to involve families in winter outdoor activities with children. Workshops and places of event change each year.

Title of the Event:  Celebration of father's day

Aim: cooperation with parents and the Logistics Battalion

Age of children: 5-7 years

Necessary attributes or materials:  prepare different tasks at orientation points.

Description:  In cooperation with the soldiers of the Logistics Battalion of the Defense Forces a traditional orienteering event for children and fathers . Kids and fathers get acquainted with armor and weapons, fathers trust themselves in the hands of children by going through a "minefield", write poems and practice precision throws. An active evening ends with drinking tea and eating cookies!

Methodological comments: active and outdoor learning methodologies are applied. Cooperation and communication skills are developing.

Tallinna lasteaed Vesiroos (Tallinn kindergarten “Vesiroos”) Tallinn, Estonia

Title of the Event:  Mustamäe Kindergartens Theater Festival.

Aim: to develop children's creativity, cooperation skills and courage to perform.

Age of children: 3-7 years

Necessary attributes or materials: children's favorite fairy tale, decorations to illustrate the performance, costumes made by parents

Description:  Tallinna Lasteaed Vesiroos has organized a theater festival since 2009. Methodological comments:  creating communication situations and vocabulary, listening and collaboration skills, developing creativity and imagination.

Title of the Event:  Family Day

Aim: cooperation between parents and kindergarten

Age of children: 2-7 years

Necessary attributes or materials: sales desks, concert preparation

Description:  The Family Day starts with a small dance party, where all groups can perform. The teachers also performs ( dances fot example). After the concert, a café street opens, where various delicious snacks, cakes, cookies etc. are sold.  Parents sell products brought by parents.  New educational games for children are bought for the sales revenue.

Methodological comments: strengthening cooperation between home and kindergarten. Creating a sense of unity.

Title of the Event:  Nature Exploration Notebook 
Aim:  To demonstrate to parents what activities children could be involved in during family nature walks and to make the parents be involved in the activities done at school

Age of children: 60-72 months

Necessary attributes or materials:  The notebook prepared by the teachers, glue, crayons, magnifying glasses

Description: The teacher, children and parents brainstorm the nature.  Then the children and their parents get the notebooks and go to the garden. They follow the instructions written on the notebook.

Methodological comments:  The children brainstorm, question and learn by doing. The parents see and get involved in their kids' learning process.

Ozel Diyarbakir TED Anaokulu Diyarbakir, Turkey

Title of the Event:  Senses

Aim: To extend  teaching outside the classroom to give some tips to the parents how to spend quality time with their kids.

Age of children: 60-72 Months

Necessary attributes or materials:  Containers, spoons, strainers, stones and grass, a few pieces of fabric, rope,flour,marbles…etc. Some food and drinks to taste, some materials to touch,  two pictures to find the differences between them, maracas to hear, some herbs to smell.

Description: There are at least five stations that include different activities representing five senses. The parents and children go to each station and do the activities .

Methodological comments: Experiential learning, Hands-on exploration

Ozel Diyarbakir TED Anaokulu Diyarbakir, Turkey

Title of the Event:  The Night of Fairy Tales

Aim: To ensure the children spend good time with their parents at school and to establish good communication between parents and school to make a positive impact on the children’s learning ability.

Age of children: 4,5,6 years

Necessary attributes or materials:  Some fairy tales, a comfortable place to listen to the fairytales, live music, chairs or cushions, lightning and lanterns…etc.

Description:  One of the teachers tells a fairy tale to the audience with live background music. It is an interactive listening activity which consist of some questions at the stages of pre-listening, while-listening and post- listening. 

Methodological comments: Creative thinking, story telling, interactive learning.
