What are Renewable Energy Sources and Why Are They Important?Renewable energy source is defined as "the energy source that can be present the next day in nature's own evolution". The most important characteristics of renewable energy sources are that they help to protect the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, contribute to the decrease of foreign dependency in energy and increase in employment because they are domestic resources, and they receive widespread and strong support from the public. In other words, renewable energy sources have all the features of accessibility, availability and acceptability.Renewable energy sources are considered as hydro, geothermal, solar, wind, wood, plant residues, biomass, tides and waves.

Biomass can be defined as the total mass of living organisms belonging to a species or a society consisting of various species at a given time. Biomass is also considered as an organic carbon.
Major sources of biomass are listed below.

Herbal Biomass Resources Oilseed plants (canola, sunflower, soy etc.) Sugar and starch plants (potato, wheat, corn, sugar beet etc.) Fiber plants (flax, hemp, hemp, sorghum, miscanthus, etc.) Protein plants (peas, beans, etc.) Vegetable and agricultural residues (branches, straw, straw, roots, bark, etc.)
