Lahore Resolution of 1940

* The resolution for the establishment of a separate homeland for the Muslims of British India passed in the annual session of the All India Muslim League held in Lahore on 22–24 March 1940 is a landmark document of Pakistan's history.

Cripps Proposal of 1942

* Cripps Mission took place in late march 1942.Britain sent Sir Stafford Cripps to get the cooperation of the Indian people in order to deal with the war situation. This proposal was rejected by Muslim league and other Indians, so this Cripps mission was a failure. Congress moved towards the Quit India Movement.

Quit India Movement

* The All India Congress Committee passed its ‘Quit India’ resolution on August 8, 1942. The demand was to declare India immediately as an independent country as a result violence broke out and on August 9 all Congress leaders were arrested and Congress was declared an unlawful body all over India.

Jinnah-Gandhi Talks

* After his release Gandhi proposed talks with Jinnah on his two-nation theory and negotiating on issue of partition. He was not willing to accept division of India but the talks were unsuccessful as Mr. Jinnah wanted complete independence.

World War 2 comes to an end

* World War 2 ended with the unconditional surrender of the Axis powers. On 8 May 1945, the Allies accepted Germany's surrender, about a week after Adolf Hitler had committed suicide.

Simla conference

* The Conference of 1945 was a meeting between the Viceroy of India Lord Wavell and the major political leaders of British India at the Viceregal Lodge in Simla.
