History
The Juilliard School was founded in 1905. With about
100 students attending at first, the school grew rapidly
with the demand of high quality musical training.
Composer William Schuman later established the Dance
Division in 1951 with Martha Hill as its first director.
With a fantastic faculty at work, The Juilliard Dance
Division soon became the first major school to combine
equal dance instruction in both modern and ballet
techniques.

Admissions
To apply for The Juilliard School, you must fill out an
application online at the school website plus a $100
application fee. Dancers must be a high school graduate and
endorsed by principals, counselors, etc.You must submit a
recommendation letter from your Language Arts or History
teacher showing that you are mature and a hard worker.
Dancers have to submit an extra recommendation letter
from their dance directors as well. Appliers must also turn in
an essay to which the school board will assign you a topic for
you to write. This gains insight on the student and gives the
school board a chance to get to know the student. The
students may turn in their SAT scores, but they are not
required.

Tuition
The Juilliard tuition for a nine-month school year
alone is only $32, 180. Other fees from the Dance
Division itself are required plus dorm payments. All first
year students attending at The Juilliard School must live
in the Juilliard residence hall. The resident hall consists
of 12 floors in The Samuel B. and David Rose Building
and holds up to 350 students. The overall tuition per
year adds up to $48,670 or $51, 670, depending on
whether you choose to live in a single or double room
dorm.

Class Size
The Juilliard School has a class of about 800 college
students and approximately 290 Pre-College students
each year. There are 115 full-time and 142 part-time
Faculty members teaching these students. As
www.juilliard.edu says, "It is these dedicated men and
women, so devoted to sharing their wisdom and passion
for the arts with young, aspiring performers, who keep
Juilliard's reputation as the country's premier
performing arts school alive."

The Juilliard School provides many major courses.
The Dance Division requires the students to do studies
such as Ballet, Modern Dance, Partnering, Acting,
