Blinded by BeautyBy: Virginia Flores

It started in the dark and lonely town of Bern. It was a
gloomy town known for their witches and wizards,
heard to cackle during midnight. Here lived Samuel
Wills, a great, hardworking man who loved to help
however he could. His wife however was a woman filled
with greed and jealousy. She despised people and
generosity, but ironically married a poor man, who held
power for exchange of his last breathe. Sarah waited
for this exchange to come but until then, she stayed in
her room with her beautiful jewels, staring out the
dusty window.

“Samuel!” shouted Sarah with fury in her voice.
“Yes, my dear?” answered Samuel calmly.
“Where is my pearl???”
“Well my dear, I sold it, to buy this month’s food”
“You ignorant pig! You know I loved that jewel and no
food is more important than my beauty and happiness!”
The truth is, Sarah was very beautiful, her eyes a deep
blue and perfectly modeled hair the color of autumn.
Samuel too was a very attractive man; he had green
eyes of a dark shade and light brown hair.

He was looked at even by the town’s beauty, a mysterious girl who
walked the streets alone and word was that they were seen talking
near the river. The girl had no name; she chose to be called “Lady”.
Lady was very beautiful as well, and had a nice personality that made
others wonder why she roamed the streets alone. Some thought it was
just her choosing to be solitary, and some thought witchery. Samuel
ignored the talk and thought of it as crazy talk from nosy women.
Lady was the next day seen talking to Samuel, for the first time in a
while Samuel was seen smiling. Sarah saw this and filled up with
madness because her lack of making Samuel smile.
“She doesn't understand you, not like I do”, said Lady

“I know but she seems to be happier as I am closer to death”, replied Samuel with
a smirk on his face.
“I should go now”, said Lady with a disgusted look on her face. Samuel nodded and
walked away. As he walked he ran into Old man Paul, a man with a look of hatred
in his eyes and a rotten smell. He had gray, dull eyes and a long beard that
extended in all directions. The elder had a few hairs on his liver spotted head, grey
like thundering clouds.
“Hey! You stay away from me!” the old man shouted, shaking his finger towards
him.
“I’m not in the mood for games! Pay attention to your run down house and stay
inside till your heart stops playing a beat!” Samuel exclaimed with his fists
clenched. Paul stayed silent for a minute with a hint of sadness in his eyes. “You
will see, young one. You will pay for the words you said”, Whispered Old Man Paul.
“Oh be quiet, crazy old man” Samuel said as he walked away. That night Samuel
went to sleep with nightmares about the other world.
