            INTRODUCE

THE LEGEND OF ELIODORO OF CATANIA 

ONce upon a time, during the Byzantine Empire, there was a man called Eliodoro. He was born in the 8th century A.D., it is thought, was born into a wealthy family of Catania and wanted to become a bishop or a prefect of the city: He came from a rich family in Catania and  he strongly wanted to become a Christian bishop. In those times there was a bishop named Leone II but unfortunately Eliodoro and Leone II didn't agree. Eliodoro never became bishop.

Failing in his plan, he approached a wizard of Hebraic origin.

The wizard thaught him the magic arts and convinced him to become a magician and a necromancer.

The wizard gave him an old manuscript where Eliodoro found everything he needed. He learnt all people were afraid of him.

He became very ambitious and with the art of magic buoilt an elephant  made of lava stone of the volcano Etna.   

The lava elephant became animated and he used it to go around the town

He was so spiteful with people that he used to buy things from merchants paying them with precious gems which he transformed in stones as soon as he went away. Nobody could capture him because he used magic to disappear suddenly.

After many years the Emperor Costantine comdemned him to death and decided to burn his body after his capture. Even one more time, Eliodoro misbehaved with the Emperor Heraclius' wife.
