Schools were closed, a nice summer vacation was waiting for us. We were all very happy and excited to be able to relieve the tiredness of the whole year in the tent camp we were going to go. Deniz, Doğa, Nehir, Yağmur, Irmak and I would go to the tent camp. We imagined our destination as a beautiful lakeside with a small stream flowing in a lush forest. But when we arrived, we saw that the grass and trees were getting dry, the water of the tea was not flowing anymore, the lake was drying up and we were very sad.

    Suddenly we heard a voice. I understand your sadness children, the voice said. We looked at each other in fear. We did not know what to do. This sound was coming from the sky. Don't be afraid Children! I see that you are sorry for the scenery you see, and I feel sorry for that. I want your help to restore the world to its former state and make it more beautiful. The earth will guide you for this matter. We couldn’t speak because of surprise. After a while, we started to think about what we could do.

At that moment, the river which was flowing slowly brought us a packing paper. On it, we could see the name «Black Tire Iron-Steel Factory».

They looked at each other and yelled: «That’s it!»

Irmak who was the smartest of the group said: « Friends! Can anyone search the address of the factory?»

Yağmur wrote «Black Tire Iron-Steel Factory» on Google and when she saw the address she was completely surprised.

What they had to do was pretty clear. Without even opening their mouths, the five friends did the same as if they had agreed on it before. They immediately got on their bikes and went to the factory.  

Guess what they saw behind the bars!

Everywhere was full of barrels that contained factory waste.

On the top of it, the sky was covered with black smoke because the factory didn’t have a filter. 

        They had to go in but there were security guards                                 everywhere.

They had an idea. Irmak went to the guard with a paper in her hand. She asked in English «How can I go to this address?» 

Thanks to her blond hair, no one could say that she wasn’t a tourist. He said: «Bacuum (Oh sister), I don’t know this?» Irmak insisted. “Please I don’t know this place. Help me. I’m a tourist» Security said: «Okay. Don’t cry! Let me ask a friend!» When the guard went to his friends, our team got in. Everthing seemed perfectly                                 normal. Too normal.

They were also surprised by this. They went up to the second floor hiding from he guards.

There was a strange smell in here.  Irmak said:” Is it the smell of plastic?” Doğa said: “No, no it is gas.” Yağmur: “No this is much worse?” Suddenly  a few workers entered with barrels.

They filled barrels with a dark substance like tar. "What is this?" screamed Nehir. Her friends, who        immediately closed her mouth, said, "Shut                                                                                   up."

At that moment one of the workers said, “I heard a voice. It was like a child's voice. » Suddenly our security showed up and "Abey, do you know this address?" he asked. They said »Was it you? We thought it was someone else. » they said. “Go away, this is a very dangerous substance. Ask someone else. » The kids looked at each other. They had to do something. Irmak took out her latest model mobile              phone. She started taking pictures. Yağmur                             said: « Very good idea!» 

Deniz said: “These pictures will be useful for prooving the crime but we need to learn where they are taking the barrels»

They immediately made a plan. Irmak would go on pretending to be a tourist so that she could distract the truck drivers. Doğa and Deniz would get on the truck secretly. Yağmur and Nehir would go the police station. The plan was very good. The five friends joined their hands and said “For a clean                      nature” and left. Irmak went to the two                                truck drivers.

«What! Why are you doing here?» they said. Irmak went on without hesitation: «Can you please help me? I want to go ….»  While she was distracting the truck drivers, Doğa and Deniz settled under the front seats of the truck.

After the truck drivers handed over Nehir to the guard, they got on the truck and started the engine. The younger truck driver turned on the radio. The song «Deliloy» was playing on the radio, and they                         got really amused. 

They joined the song and sang: “Deliloy deliloy….”

The old truck driver said: "Do you think it is right to dump this dangerous waste into the clean river?" "Never mind. The boss wanted it, so we do it. Don’t worry! »« I don’t feel well at all. Don't you see, the river dries up day by day. » The younger one to turned up the music and sang                louder than before.

Meanwhile, Nehir and Yağmur went to the police station. They approached a friendly policeman and told him what had happened. The policeman said: “Is it possible that you have had a dream. These things are not that easy? » “But we have proof. Look at these pictures. »Police: “There can be anything in the barrels. Why do you think it is harmful waste? » “But we saw it with our own                      eyes. And two of our friends secretly got           on the truck and they were following them.

“But this is very dangerous. Give me your friend's phone number right away. Let's follow the signal. »At that moment the phone rang. Doğa: «The car stopped. Come quick. ASAP!" The signal was found and police cars headed to that direction. The poliçe officers arrested the men in the act. When Doğa and Deniz saw their friends, they came out of the place they hid. The four friends hugged each other and said to the police, "Now let's catch the boss!"                        “You go home. Let's us do our job! »  

The children didn’t protest, but it was clear from the look of their eyes that they would do something. The children got on their bicycles and made their way to the factory. Right in front of the factory, the boss was running with a gun in his hand.

At that moment Irmak was walking to the factory. Nehir said: "Watch out! He has a gun in his hand!" While the distracted boss was looking left and right to the children, it started to rain and it got dark.                  The soil in front of the factory turned into mud                      all of a sudden.

When the boss tried to run, he fell to the ground and the gun in his hand disappeared in the mud. This must have been the support that the earth and sky gave them. They heard the police siren. Irmak: "The police are approaching, you will not escape." With a quick move she jumped on the boss. What do you think the four do? Of course they also jumped on him. They altogether caught the boss.           When the police officers reached the factory,                          they saw that the boss was caught.

Police: “You again. Didn't we tell you to go home? » Five friends joined their hands and shouted: "For a clean nature!" The police put handcuffs on the boss, took him into the police car and said, “Dear kids, you did a great job today. We congratulate you. But you put yourself in great danger. Be more careful next time. We will take you to the police station. Your families will come and take you from there. » The children were horrified and shouted:                                            “Whaaaat!"

Back at the police station, the children were drinking the tea that the poice officers offered them, when the families arrived one by one. They learned everything. Doğa's father: "Dear kids, your intention is very good and admirable, but you took a lot of risks. This is also not right at all. » Nehir's mother: "Of course you deserve a punishment." The children shouted altogether: »But why?» Yağmur’s father: »We thought about punishment.”                      The children were very upset.

What would be the punishment? Irmak's mother: "This summer, you will plant saplings in the forest area for two hours every day." When the children heard this, they were delighted. They hugged their parents. They said this is a great punishment. And again they joined their hands together and said” FOR A CLEAN NATURE.”

We heard a cry as we were thinking. We looked around and found that it came from a tree. We quickly reached out to the tree and asked: "Why are you crying?" The tree answered: "Can't you see, look around you and you would find the reason." We said: "Don't worry tree, we will find a way; our environment won't stay this way."

We thought for a while. Suddenly Doğa had an idea: "I've found it. There was a ministry responsible for the cleanliness of these places and people who have done this. We can go there." We agreed and headed to the ministry. But the ministry officials declined us saying we were only kids and they didn't believe us. We returned to the camp disappointed. We thought to have a grown up with us the next time we tried. But who could this grown up be? After a long thinking went into it, we decided on our teachers. We explained the situation to them and went to the ministry .

Ministry officials were still hesitant to believe. Our teacher had asked: "What do we need to do in order to make you believe?" They asked for us to take them there, in return. We accepted and headed to the camp altogether. As we were arriving, they couldn't hide their disbelief: "How could this ever happen!" They apologised for not believing. We accepted the apology: " It's not important. What really important was that you came down here." They promised to restore the place to its original glory.

The earth and the trees were going to reach the water again. But tree we talked to earlier was not happy with this development. How could it, knowing that much of the world was in the same situation. To console it we brainstormed ideas of what we could do right then and there. We thought of making posters to raise awareness, to save the water and the trees. Ministry officials offered help with the creation, publishing and the announcements. The tree was still concerned: "What if they won't care about the posters, what then?" Deniz had an idea after we brainstormed a bit more: "We can shoot a short film about the importance of water."

Everyone liked the idea however the officials were still concerned: "What if it won't reach enough people?" The tree and us said: "Everyone is interested in social media these days, we can do something to gain their attention there." Irmak added: "It should be both aired as a public service announcement and published on social media sites like tiktok, facebook, instagram." We got grouped into two. One dealt with the PSA while the other was concerned with the social media. That way we drew the attention of the public and raised awareness on the importance of the water and the environment.

    The world needed us, we had to act immediately and do our best. We didn't know where to start. We started to walk around for a while and see the problem more clearly. There was no time to waste. We met a shepherd who went out to graze his sheep. The shepherd told us that it used to be a forest and a green pasture where he grazed his sheep here every year but now nothing grows here and his animals cannot find water to drink. This situation made us very sad. We had to do something without wasting any time. 

We decided to go to a nearby village. When we got to the

 village, we encountered people who moved to the city. They told us that there were very few people living in the village and many of them left the village because of thirst and started migrating to the big cities. So the problem was much bigger than we thought.

    We decided to meet with the headman of the village and get information. As we told the headman, we once again realized how bad the situation was. People unconsciously cut trees in the forest area above the village to meet their fuel needs. The forest, which is getting smaller each year, has recently disappeared. Also in the forest, the lake gradually dried up, and eventually, it disappeared. When there was no forest, it did not rain anymore and the groundwater started to decrease gradually. Many springs that supply water to the village have dried up. 

    People in the village were dehydrated and started looking for ways to bring water from afar. However, this was not a solution, the decreasing rains caused the soil to be unproductive and dry. When the villagers could not get as much crop from the fields as before, they started to leave the village. As if this were not enough, the factory established near the village started to pour chemical waste into the stream passing through the village. The beautiful stream, which used to flow blue and where fish lived, has now turned into a smelly and disease-spreading swamp. People have also started to throw their garbage here.

    It was time to act now. The damage inflicted on nature by man could be repaired by the human hand. Ideas about what we could do started popping up in our minds, but we needed help to make them happen. First of all, we decided that we had to prevent the factory's waste from flowing into the stream. Then we thought about what we could do about it. Deniz had a great idea. We remembered the effective citizenship issue we learned in the social studies course.

We could ensure that our problems were resolved by petitioning where necessary. Irmak and Nehir volunteered to do this job. They wrote a petition to the District Governorship and the Governorship. Doğa and Yağmur took on the task of replanting the trees and restoring the forest. They went to the Directorate of Forestry in cooperation with the headman of the village and expressed their problems. They took many saplings to be able to plant trees again in the forest. They got to work together with the headman and the villagers. They replanted the saplings and made most of the forest green again. They raised people's awareness and ensured that their animals were grazed only in permitted areas. Factory waste was no longer dumped into the stream, trees were not cut down unconsciously, and people didn’t throw their garbage into the stream. People continued to live in cooperation, with more respect and happiness towards nature.

    We were very happy that we fulfilled our duties. We immediately returned to the camping area and set up our tents. The lake was blue and the forest was green. Waters flowed from the springs as before. It was as if the sky was smiling and thanking us.

As people waste water, there is no evaporation and I cannot make it rain. ” "So what can we do?" Yağmur said. 

Deniz: Tell me please, we will do everything we can. 

The sky: “They take the stage and play, the audience applauds, two curtains are opened and closed, awareness is learned with tiny messages. Think about it. Your answer is hidden here. "

They came together and started thinking. Deniz started talking."This is a riddle, let's find it now!" he said excitedly.

Irmak: ”Yes! I think we can write and a theatre play. So, our message can reach a lot of people.

They worked together for two weeks. They did researchs, consulted their teachers and elders, and finally they wrote a beautiful play. They would show the people this water problem, which people could not see around them, on the theater stage. This theater play could raise awareness in people about saving water. There were only three things left: the theater, the audience, and a channel where they could broadcast television. Yağmur: I think our theater area should be in the picnic area because a place where drought is clearly seen can affect people more.

Doğa: I print invitations and give them to people. 

Deniz: I can also ask my elders to help them spread the poster of our theater play. Social media is now appealing to very large audiences. 

Irmak: Our teacher also takes care of the television channel.

The day has come, everything was ready. On the theater stage, children portrayed a droughty place, but it was actually a green area that was used as a picnic area almost a year ago. The audience hadn't noticed this before, and it was obvious from every way that they were very sorry for it. There was a huge crowd. The TV channel was live. At that moment, clouds in the sky began to write some things on the theater stage and the writings were as follows; "It flows from the taps, if you don't save it, it will get out of your life." Then he deleted it and wrote: "Water is life, don't end your life". Then the clouds drew a picture. It was a picture of an droughty country. The children were very surprised and very happy that the sky came to contribute to the theater play. They whispered their gratitude quietly to the sky. Sky said to them, "This is a small gift for your effort."

Everyone was surprised. The people were also very confused and anxious but at the same time they got the message about awareness of wasting water and were hopeful that they could restore the world. The audience applauded and the theater play ended successfully. These five children took a deep breath and said, " We hope this theater is enough to raise awareness." After that day, the theater play attracted a lot of attention on social media. Water-related campaigns have been started around the world. Water has started to be given importance.

The children then went back to the same picnic area to talk to the sky. Earth and sky welcomed the children happily. " Congratulations children, ”they said, and at that moment it rained, flowers bloomed, bees wandered around.

The children sat on the branches of the plane tree all together and began to rise into the sky.

When the little cloud saw the children, he wanted to escape immediately but I said:

“Please don’t be afraid of us. We have come here from a long way to help the earth.Please take us to the other clouds” I said in a sad voice. First the little cloud looked at children in fear but later he decided to help the children. 

“Come on, then. Let me take you to the clouds behind that mountain” he said. The children sat on the cloud happily and began to travel in the sky quietly. When the clouds behind the mountain saw the children of the earth, they were all very surprised.

A black and angry cloud came closer to the little cloud immediately and asked angrily:

“Where have you been? Why did you bring the children of the earth here? We took offense to them, Don’t you know that?” The little cloud would almost cry.

”Daddy I was very bored. I just went out to play a little bit. The children of the earth came to me with the branches of a tree to talk to you, and they had come from a long way, they looked very sad. That's why I brought them here.” he said.

The clouds came out of their hiding place and slowly began to disperse around the sky. And the little cloud led the children to the branches of the plane tree slowly and left them there. As the children got down from the branches of the tree, raindrops began to fall down. The nature has come alive and has sung with fun. Children began to sing and dance the song of nature under the pouring rain. When they got very tired and laid on the ground, they saw the sun winking at them through the clouds.

          We believed we had the power to turn everything back into its former state. The question of “why did this happen?” was in our minds. The water in the lake was running low, the trees were beginning to dry. Not a single bird sound could be heard. Nature was losing its vitality. The stream is dry, said Irmak. It was the stream that fed the lake and made the trees green. The stream gives life to nature, so why did the stream dry up? added Nehir. We left our camping equipment and the tents we set up and headed for our home. Was this the way we came? 

A few hours ago we had crossed the pathway among the lush green trees. Yet now they were like concrete trees. Colorless, dull and speechless ... We've been asking the same question since the morning. What happened at a moment like this? We couldn't believe what we saw when we got to our homes. There was not a single green tree left, the fields were stiffen as if the crops were made of plastic. The gardens have dried up. The people were not the people we left in the morning.

They were all pale, nothing but skin and bones. We were very afraid of what we saw. We decided to ask for help from the Earth as soon as possible. We immediately ran to the bed of the stream that passed over the top of our village. It dried up so deep that deep crevices were formed in the ground here. We called out to the earth. “Earth help us please, where's the Stream? We have to learn this. If he is offended by us, we should take his heart. Otherwise, our village will be destroyed. " We called out to the earth. Suddenly, a wind blew and dust filled the air, and it was blind. Then there was a quake. Six friends hugged each other.

We suddenly found ourselves in the middle of a brown darkness. For some reason, none of us were afraid, but we didn't let go of our hands.  Deep down there was a voice of stream of water, it sounded so good that we were not afraid but happy. “This is the sound of the stream,” said Yağmur. When our tears dripped into the water of the Stream, the anger of the Stream suddenly ceased. The Stream was also upset. He decided to listen to us. We started to explain one by one what happened after the stream dried up. The trees, lake, our village, fields, gardens, people and birds… The Stream “I am aware of this. But people caused it. They set up a dam on my bed, I didn't say anything. I tried very hard to clean up their waste. But when the chemical waste mixed with me, I had nothing left to do. Fish, birds drinking from my water began to die and trees began to die. People didn't care. However, they were watering their fields and gardens from my water. The plants they watered were poisoned but they paid no attention. I said if they get themselves into trouble then they have no right to complain and left my bed, I retreated under the around.

I have nothing left to do”. We realized that the water rising to our knees was the tear of the Stream. He was also very upset. In fact, he was more upset than people. He had fish friends, bird friends and tree friends. He had lost all of them. People had caused it. We thought and we said to the Stream that we would raise people's awareness, we promised him. We had hope and faith. The earth took us out of the ground. We ran to our village. We called out to people. We told one by one how they harmed nature. We explained that they should not use pesticides, they should not throw their waste into the stream, and the resentment of the stream. While we were telling, we cried, but we continued. 

The villagers asked us "Dere loves us very much, we are the ones who do not love him, do not care, do not appreciate his value, wouldn't he return if we apologized or even beg for his forgiveness?"  We were sure that if people were conscious, the stream would return to its bed. The villagers were delighted. They started working. They stopped using pesticides. They didn't throw their waste into the stream anymore. They expressed their love and respect for the Stream. After a few days, the stream bed started to get humid. As the stream bed got wetter, the surrounding area began to turn green. Bird sounds were heard. Everything began to return to the old way slowly. People recognized the value of their beauties, life began to be beautiful and livable again.

        I opened my eyes. I am in a tent. I was just in the village. What was going on? I hurried out. I look at my friends, there is something odd and confused about them. I said the stream is flowing. Doğa said look at the trees they are green and huge. Deniz said how clear the lake's water was; Irmak said the birds are singing; Nehir said she saw fish in the lake; Yağmur said that a drop of rain fell on her head. Then a bird got dirtied my head. Yes, it was a dream I had and we all had the same dream. We sat silent for a while, then talked. This world is ours, this nature is ours. We said that we are the ones who will protect and look after it. A fish jumped out of the lake and the birds singed. We were all happy.

             After we disscussed among ourselves for a while, we realized that there are many pollution and environmental problems around us. Nehir emphasized that the biggest nature problem is related to water. The earth agreed with Nehir and  he said that the primary problem is the water problem. We started to think about and discuss what we an do about it together. We all agreed that the biggest cause of water pollution and scarcity is people.Deniz said that people waste and pollute the water. Yağmur said that for this, people should be made aware of this and that we should do something.

We first need to warn the people in our own town and explain the importance of water to them. We made a distribution of tasksto carry out various studies in line with this purpose. Doğa and Nehir will visit the houses one by one and warn people not to use water unnecessarily and distribute the brochures they prepared beforehand. Deniz will reach these people by sharing videos and pictures on social media. Irmak and Yağmur will set up a school club and tell their friends about the problems related to water and the importance of water. 

Finally, we will talk to The Municipality and organize a movie night, gather all the people there, and have them watch a documentary and film about water.Despite all our hard work, the people in the town continued to pollute and waste water.It saddened us that all our efforts were wasted. We decided to go to that place where we gathered together and went back to the tent camp. We were going to talk to the sky and the earth there. When we got there the streamlet  was even more contaminated. A very hoarse voice came from the sky. Don't worry guys, you did your best, but people didn't understand the importance of water. ’’ enough!   these people do  as yet.’’ said Earth.

He was angry saying I must punish them. We were suddenly startled, the Earth countined,  anymore I will punish them. ‘’I will cut off all the water that I send to people, let's see what they will do without water’’ said. We also justified  to Earth, but we asked Earth  not to maintain this punishment too long. The sky wanted the same thing from the earth. The Earth accepted this wish . He said that right  away tomorrow I will cut off all the water going to the people. We are sadly scattered around our homes. On the other hand, we were afraid. The water was not flowing when we woke up in the morning.

He did what he said    Earth and prevented us from reaching the water in order to teach a lesson to all humanity. After a few days, people could no longer drink water and clean. Now all people were so embarrassed that they did not know the value of water in time. Almost all of them understood the mistake he had made. We were happy to be aware of this mistake people made, but being dehydrated made our lives very difficult, too.We decided to go back to the same area with friends and talk to Earth and Sky.

People now understood the value of water and there was no point in maintaining this punishment. We all went there and talked to Earth. He expressed that he realized that people understood the value of water on  and he was sorry for their situation. He said that there was no point in continuing this punishment anymore, and this lesson would be enough for people. Then he brought the water back to the people.

We were all very happy now. People understood the value of water better and didn't waste water. Thus, in the World and  in our town became a more beautiful and livable place. Now the dried herbs were green, and the rivers and streams were overflowing. People are happy  anymore . We understood very well that we should understand the value of what we have without losing it. If we understand the importance and value of water before we lose water, we will inherit more livable world to our children.

Yağmur: What kind of favor should we do? 

Deniz: Here we have to think about it a little bit.

 Irmak: We can clean the garbage. 

Doğa: We can plant trees.

Yağmur: If we prepare posters and surveys, we hand them out to people.

Deniz: These ideas are very good, but which one would we do better?

Nehir: Let's split into groups if we don't know which one will be better

Irmak: So let's split into groups without wasting any time. 

Doğa: Let there be Deniz and Nehir in my group; Let Yağmur and Irmak be in Güneş's group.

Doğa made herself and me the head of the group. We started planning.

 We planted trees, collected garbage, hand out leaflets to raise awareness, tried to explain this situation to people. We tried to explain that even a drop of water is valuable. As if the earth was recovering slowly, but still did not talk to us, it was not what the sky said. Maybe we had to do something else. We must have forgotten something big. We gathered with friends and started to think again. The thing what we had forgotten haunted us and it seemed like we couldn't do anything. Suddenly we heard a voice. Now we knew this voice. This voice belonged to the sky. '' You're missing something. You should also consider water pollution. ''

Everyone was deep in thought again. This silence was broken by Yağmur's shouting 'I found it!'

 Irmak: What did you find? she asked 

Yağmur: Factories!

All of them were looking at each other. Nobody understood anything Yağmur was trying to tell. She continued his words with great excitement.

Yağmur: Factories leave their wastes to the sea and nature. Because of factory wastes, the sea is polluted. If we can stop this, the earth will talk to us.

Nehir: This is a very good idea, so let's go without wasting time.

Deniz: Friends, if we all go to the same place, we lose a lot of time, if we all go to different places, we will solve the problem more quickly.

We thought that Deniz’s idea made more sense, and we all went to different factories and told us what could be done. I suppose we had handled this problem as well. We had already agreed to meet at our usual place. Again, while we were thinking about whether we did it wrong, a voice heard, this was not the sound of the sky. If it was not the voice of the sky, it was the earth. The earth told us that we did a very good job, and more people should become conscious. We were very happy, he was guiding us now. We were doing whatever he said. Everything started to improve gradually. Over time, it rained, flowers blossomed, trees grew, streams and seas were cleaner now. Nature was regaining its former beauty again. They became aware of health. They were more conscious now. They took care of nature and water; they did not waste and did not pollute the environment.

After all this happened, I wrote a note like this in my notebook: "Güneş and his friends had done good things for this world."
