George was a Muscovy duck who lived for many years on the San Antonio Riverwalk. She was so
friendly to humans that she became a tourist
attraction. On the early morning of May 29, 2013
while George was sleeping under a tree, she was
approached by two men who tortured and
strangled her to death. This book is a tribute to George
who made many smile. It is my hope that those
responsible for taking the life of such a beloved duck
will be found and held accountable.

George always stood out in a crowd. She was a
Muscovy duck with unique colors on her
feathers.
Her feathers weren't the only thing original
about George.
Why?
She was more human than bird and genuinely
friendly.

The San Antonio Riverwalk in Texas is where
George lived. Unlike other ducks, who were
shy, George trusted humans alot. She would
approach people without fear to ask for tacos.
George slept under a tree near the river.

How did George become so friendly to
humans?
Locals who knew George said that the other
ducks on the Riverwalk didn't like George
because she was different.
Some people thought she wasn't a duck at all
but a cross between a duck and goose.
The other ducks must have thought George
was a strange creature too because they
wouldn't play with her.

When the other ducks wouldn't play with her
George could have sulked or ran away from
the Riverwalk. But she didn't. She made the
best of it.
If the other ducks wouldn't be her friend then
the people of the Riverwalk would. Every
morning George would wake up and walk to
the patio of a Mexican restaurant to play her
peeking game with the people who worked
there.

George would peek around the corner of the
patio while the restaurant workers were setting
up the tables. When they saw George they
would talk to her and she would go hide.
George would play hide and seek several times
with them until she said "Good Morning" with a
quack. This game became a daily tradition
between George and the people at the
restaurant. Eventually George was adopted as
the restaurant mascot.

"Genuine George"
This book is a tribute to George. A duck who made friends with people when the other ducks rejected her. George took a sad situation and turned it into a good one. Many tourists visited the Riverwalk just to meet George.
