Last Sunday, my friend from my freshman year chatted with me about an assignment. After that, we talked for an hour about how we are doing in our academic life. Then suddenly, he told me that I`m one of the few individuals he recognized as an effective and reliable leader. His statement led me to contemplate, am I truly a leader? 

     Since my freshmen year, I tried my best to stay on the sidelines instead of taking the lead. This is because I see myself to be more of a team player. Also I don`t want the stress that it caused me. But the harder I tried to avoid it, in the end, I always end up taking the responsibility of being in charge. 

       After contemplating this, I figured that I`m not choosing to be a leader; the situation, the context, or the people around me chose me to be one. You might think that I`m bragging, but no, I tried to run from it, but it didn`t work, trust me. I remembered what Paulo Freire stated in his book about leadership. He stated that (nonverbatim) a leader does not tell the people that he is the leader; instead, the people chose him/her to be a one. Well, as long as they trust me, I will try my best to act on it instead of ignoring it ehheehe.
