In Santander, for many years, the peasants have suffered from fear when passing through the ravine of Burgua's sidewalk, since there, according to rumors, a woman was brutally murdered many years ago and now her ghost haunts women who are beautiful like she used to be.
Her beauty was her greatest enemy, her beauty caused her death and that is why she is now known as "La Barbacoa".
The Rodríguez family, who we will focus on this story, had 5 daughters, they were highly admired in the town for their beauty. Andrea, the eldest of the daughters, was sent to town one day to continue her studies.

That day, everything was a joy for the family because she was a very good student. However, when Andrea turned fifteen, Don José, Andrea's father, began to worry about the integrity of his daughter, since if she returned to the sidewalk, she ran the risk of being attacked by "La Barbacoa".
You must be wondering, why Andrea's life was at risk? Well, Matilde (The real name of "La Barbacoa") was the most beautiful woman in the town, in fact, in 1965, she was crowned as the Queen of Chocolate and Panela (Products that increased the development of farmers and therefore the town).

Just after winning the award of the most beautiful woman, "La Barbacoa" started her way back home located in the Burgua's sidewalk. When she reached the bridge that passes over the ravine, five men went out and abused her, to the point of leaving so much mistreated that she did not survive.
Shortly before her death, Matilde swore that she would take any woman who passes over the bridge when she turns fifteen and looks pretty to prevent her from living what she lived. In this sense, “La Barbacoa” said that the woman would appear days later completely transformed.
In order not to run that risk, Don José spoke with his relatives in the town so that under NO circumstances they would allow Andrea to visit them at the farm.
