“Please, please, sire, you must help me my wife is dead. I must bring
her back. Your land is prosperous and mine is dying. Please gift me a
magical crystal of which you have plenty to get my wife back.”
“Hmmm” said the king of the land of Jorvax thoughtfully considering
the request of his neighboring king. He had been expecting a request
such as this for some time as his kingdom had thrived under the
power of the turquoise crystal that was so common in his lands. It had
become widely believed that the Shylax mineral was responsible for
success and prosperity in the land of Jorvax and he was not surprised
to draw such a request from King Alain whose kingdom had not
prospered and became a desert over a long period.

“Please, please, I beg you to help me,” pleaded the king of
Dain.
“Very well Alain, you may take one crystal to bring your wife
back. I know how you feel as when my wife, Elizabeth
abandoned me, I felt terribly desperate. I don’t know how she
could have done that. 15 years of love and then just leaves.”

Alain was delighted when he got the crystal. His eyes lit up
with happiness, glistened in the torchlight. The king’s personal
guards walked slowly to Alain and placed the crystal in his
trembling hands. James Hilt had stood silently by until he was
called over by his king. James was the leader of the King’s
personal guards. He was strongly built with emerald green
eyes and chestnut brown hair. He had acquired this position by
virtue of his dashing, daring and bravery in battle in the king’s
Royal Army.
“James, I want you to accompany the king back to his castle,”
commanded king Edward, “Ensure that he and his crystal
safely return to his castle.” Turning to King Alain he said, “Use
this gift wisely. I trust it will bring you all you desire.”

The pair set off for Alain castle. They traveled by great steeds through
the lush green forests and vast wide open plains. They climbed over the
mountain range separating the two so different lands. Along the way
James said, “It is grave news to hear about your wife. I hope you will
bring her back with the power of the crystal.”
The king said nothing but turned his head away. James thought this
was quite odd.
The pair reached the castle and walked into the chapel. It was a large
room with a statue of Jesus and the cross at the center. The roof was
curved and the walls were comprised of many stained glass windows.
They walked up in front of the statue of Jesus and there lay a coffin.

“Is that her coffin?” James asked.
“Yes,” answered Alain wiping a tear from his eye.
“I will leave you alone to perform the ceremony,” said James
He walked out of the chapel receiving astounded stares from
the people. The public of this land were all dressed in animal
skins like savages; James thought they could at least get
some actual clothes.
The King came out of the chapel with his face in his hands,
sobbing.
“What is wrong?” James enquired.
“It didn’t work, it wasn’t enough! You must go back to your
king and ask for more. Please.”
James agreed and set out for his kingdom to obtain another
crystal for Alain.

On his return, the king went back into the degenerating chapel
and performed the ritual yet again.
The king returned with his head on his chest.
Alain sighed and once again appealed, “You must go get even
more James, please.”
Although suspicious, James again complied with the king’s
request continuing to do so on three more occasions until his
hunch had grown to a deep concern that King Alain was up to
something.
James discussed his suspicions with king Edward who was
equally concerned. The King told James to confront Alain on his
next visit and search the coffin and find Elizabeth’s body. The
troop of guards readied and set out to confront Alain in his
colossal fortress in the land of Dain. Silently they climbed the
mountain and trudged down sighting the fortress on the
horizon. The darkness of night settled on the troop as they lit
their lanterns. The greedy king of Dain, Alain spotted these
lanterns on the far horizon.

“I must hide the crystals, they can’t know what I have done
with them,” he thought.
He turned around with such speed he almost fell over and
dashed toward the table with the Shylax laid out. He scooped
them up and quickly placed them in his heavy wooden chest
slamming the door shut and locked. He yelled to his guards,
“They’re coming, they’re coming!” and the guards of the dark
fortress readied for battle.
James and his guards approached with no idea of what they
were facing and when they realized it was too late.
“Fire!” yelled Alain’s troops.
