It had only been 5 hours since Magic Art Online had
been released. You play the game by putting on
neuro helmets that use your brains signals to control
yourself in the game as your body in real life is in a
slumber like stature.. The game already had 9 million
players in it playing for the love of the game. The
game was about magic skills that you learn from
defeating creatures and honing them to your liking
developing each type to your hearts content.
Everything was fine until about an hour ago when an
earthquake happened shaking the first floor of the
high dungeon that the game took place in, Trimon.

A figure appeared in the sky cloaked in black with a
booming voice said, ”Players of Magic Art Online, If you look
in your menu you will see that the logout button has been
removed. This is intentional of course, in my dying breaths I
shall see a nice show go on as you try to complete the 100
floors of Trimon. The reason to the logout button being
removed is to the fact that you cannot leave until the game
is completed. The world has been notified of this and if they
try to remove your helmets you will die as thousands of
volts of electricity are sent through your brain. All of your
bodies will be moved to hospitals for care to make sure you
survive to play and maybe come back. I forgot to mention
one thing, there is only one life per person if you die in this
game to some of the many monsters or bosses you will die
in real life as well.”

Most of us beta testers or beaters had never
even met with the owner in the game, no one
really knew his name. That incident happened
2 years ago and the remaining players was
reduced by 8.7 million people. The remaining
of us made towns or villages in some of the
more peaceful floors, Some became
merchants, Some settled down in a house,
Others including me fought for our way out of
the game.

I was on floor 37 of the tower in fort drake collecting my
items and money for my trip to the stairs to floor 73 to
meet my friend Asuna. I locked the door and used a warp
crystal to floor 72. We are going to defeat the floor 73
boss and achieve one gradual step closer to our freedom.
In the guide book distributed to all the players about
rumors of bosses or helpful tips for completed floors was
the rumor for floor 73 that the dungeon was filled with
kobolds and the boss is the kobold warchief using 2
weapons, a sword and shield at first, then a giant’s sword
when his health reaches 25%, but alas those were always
just rumors. I arrived at the stairs where Asuna was
waiting.
Asuna said, “ Come on Kirito we’ve been waiting.”
I replied with, “ We’ve?”

Just then the 9th branch of the armor guild appeared from the
nearby woods, I could only tell because of their insignia and
number on their chest plates. They were by far the largest guild
of Trimon, but they were definitely not the strongest. Asuna was
the co leader of the Dragons tail guild that was the strongest guild
even though my sword skill is much more powerful than hers. We
all exchanged greetings and headed up the stairs. Almost
instantly we were attacked by a royal kobold guard and a few
kobold squires. Asuna and I took care of them in mere seconds
with Asuna’s royal fireskill that is extremely powerful with intense
damage and attacking speed. Apart from the others that were
level 20-30 I am level 48, While Asuna is level 40. I use some of
the most powerful magic that only two people including me know,
the all powerful fjord magic. The other person with this magic is
the leader of the Dragons tail. I keep this a secret because I fear
taking the burden of others. The boss chamber was just ahead of
us, so we checked our backpacks for healing crystals and
teleportation crystals just in case things got a bit close.

We all went into the room thinking of what the boss may look
like or the more important thing of where is he in the chamber.
We all entered the room in a clump with Asuna and I at the
front. We were not paying attention to the roof of the large room
as the Kobold Warchief dropped from the ceiling in a swirling
blaze of swords and magic. All of us acted instinctively except for
one unlucky soul that didn’t notice him. There was a scream then
he dispersed into glassy shards. His friends quickly rushed to his
side in sobs. My will to defeat this boss quickly rose with anger
and ferocity. I lashed at him with hundreds of bolts of lightning
only managing to take his health down 20%, but I was out of
energy and too tired to send another volley. The rest of the
players here fired all their magic destroying his health in a flurry
of elements spanning from fire to water. His health dropped to
35% as he gained his ground taking his chance to strike, in one
sweep he dispersed at least a third of the armor guild as a flurry
of crystals flew up and disappeared.

The kobold readied another swing, as I looked
closer I saw Asuna was in its sweeping and shield
bash range. I snapped on the inside, my only
friend being sent to oblivion never to be seen
again. I activated my fjord magic restoring all my
energy and firing a massive blast of ice, wind,
earth, and water at the Kobolds gnarled face. He
noticed the magic too late as he was knocked
back sword and shield banished out of his hands
and his health dropping to 10% while a cleaver
and hook formed in his hand.

This Isn’t right, he’s supposed to have a giant’s sword. The hook
then launched forward straight at me, the one who nearly
destroyed him. I quickly jumped using wind magic, Asuna did
the same thing but thrusted herself upwards with fire magic. The
hook swung around so fast that it passed through all of the
armor guild players. Asuna, the Kobold, and I were the only
ones left, 29 players had just died for one fight. The kobold used
its cleaver and chopped at Asuna who quickly flew around the
room with her magic. I regained my wits from the terror of
death. I charged another bolt of magic, firing the same type as
last time the kobold flew into the wall and dispersed into
crystals. My rewards appeared in front of me; a Midnight Cape,
800 experience, and the bonus for the type of magic it was
defeated with, the Fjord hand stone used for making magic do
more damage.
