"Here's hoping that they never stop believing, and working hard to accomplish all their hearts desire."
Much love, Mama

Today was the day the class had to write their first-ever essay assignment. So naturally, many students were excited about the endless topics they could discuss. Yet, there was one student who was left very timid.

His name was Ollie, and he was pretty frazzled by the endless choices.
Like the topic, he should choose? And the details and characters he must include?
"Decisions, Decisions, Hmm...?!?!?!

So, without hesitation, Mrs. Garza set out to help Ollie narrow down his topics. Doing so, she gave him a new strategy to list out the pros and cons of some of his more passionate topics and showed him a graphic organizer he could use to keep his thoughts together.
First, She explained that he could use the Semantic Feature analysis chart. This strategy would help Ollie see the characteristics that each topic and character would bring to his essay. Which, in turn, could help him realize the topic area he would have more to write on.

Next, she explained the Semantic Map a graphic organizer Ollie could use to keep his topic and thoughts organized upon choosing his essay topic.
Gaining this information, Ollie was reassured and gained some relief from having a little extra guidance. In addition to this, Ollie was now able to realize he had more to write about than he initially thought.

So what topic did
He chose?
Ollie chose to write about the Medieval Times through a first-person narrative. This directive meant Ollie would use his full imagination and everything he knew of this era to express his surroundings, feelings, people, and total atmosphere.
He was so excited to put himself in a knight's shoes and tell a tale from one's perspective.
He would call himself Ollie, the fearless conquerer and shining brave knight!
