I smell the fires of the Hidatsa Indian tribe in which I am not forced to live. 

The chatter of the white man sounds like the barking of squirrels.

I am traded to Toussaint Charboneau, a French trapper and trail guide 

And soon we are wed.

He seemed to genuinely like me and made sure I was well fed.

Other men white, as the snow, arrived at our camp.

They are Lewis and Clark who want us to help them on their journey west.

Finally, when the Missouri River thaw has arrived

The journey was not easy 

But we roamed freely

Discovering many new species of plants and animals and unseen places.
