Princess Ardinia lived in the 10th century, in the castle of Lamego, when this land was under Muslim rule.
The beauty of the princess was spoken on all sides. One day the Christian knight, Dom Tedon, came to Lamego in disguise, having immediately fallen in love with her. They decided to marry. But the Muslim King, her father, did not agree to the marriage of his Muslim daughter to a Christian. On a stormy night, the princess ran away with her lover, hiding in a Convent, where they got married.
Her father, who had gone in pursuit, found her by the River Távora and, when he knew that she had married and converted to Christianity, killed her with his sword, throwing her body into the water. His beloved, promised never to marry again and went into combat with the Muslims. He was killed, very close by a small river, which took his name, Tedo River.
People say that the waters of the Távora and Tedo rivers sometimes appear red, because of the blood of the beloved Ardinia and Tedom. People also say that when the castle is surrounded by fog in winter, the princess's soul flies over it.
