My uncle lives in Florina,  and there they hava a special Christmas tradition. At Christmas season, everybody gathers at the big central square and light a huge fire with people dancing and singing  and drinking wine. It simbolizes the end of the old year and the coming of the new year.

In my father's village, Glossa, in Skopelos.There is a custom.When people get married or have a child or on any spacial occasions , they make a traditional sweet to give to the guests. It's called Hamali.

    Hamali is made of almonds, sugar and rose water.

    Usually in  weddings hamali is shaped as flowers but when a child is born they are shaped as animals. 

    They are very tasty.

The day of Australia. !!!

The day of Australia is a national holiday which is held on the 26th of January every year. 

It symbolizes the day that set foot in Australia the first Englishmen.  Local communities organize celebrations, various events and concerts. Thoughout the country, they throw a lot of fireworks to honour the day. Custom lost with time ,because of the decoration of the tree.The boat symbolizes the new side of man in life after the birth of Christ. But it was also a kind of honor and welcome to the sailors, who returned from their voyages. The boats are still decorated in some areas of Greece and more on the islands.

NICKOLAS A!!!!

My great grandmother, who comes from Trikala, on New Year's Day made cheese pie instead of the classic royal pie. She put in a coin and she turned the pie on the table with the baking tray three times and  whoever won it, would be lucky all year. We continue this custom until today.

And I like it very much.

My village!!!

In my village we have a special custom .We buy a pig on May, we feed it and on Christmas we kill it.

Then we eat  an egg with bread for Greek sweet bread.Allso  we eat mellomakarona.At the end we

eat a chicken with wine.

On the carnival Sunday in Skopelos there is a big party. The young people of the village gather and make a boat out of wood and reeds.On the boat hang tins that create a funny noise like bells. They get in and go to the squeare of the village and they dancing. The women of the village give them rice milk, pies and wine. In the end they go in the port and they drop the boat in the sea and the party continues in the houses.

''Ta Mantilomata'' is a very old tradition in my village (Zagora). In every new house that is made, the workers put on the roof a wooden cross facing to the east. Around the cross they put flowers and strings and socks. Nowdays, the owner gives money to the workers.
