Digital Literacy2

What were your thoughts about information, media and Internetliteracies prior to this module?
Before reading this module, I viewed media and internet literacy as a go to
place that students found entertaining.
I didn't know that a tv show could be used as a means of learning. For me
watching television was just for entertainment.
Prior to this module and my understanding of the Internet, I just assumed
that it was used to search information and for social interactions.
I also didn't realize that the internet could benefit preschool and elementary
kids

What is your thinking now? After viewing the video and the reading, I have
learned that the Internet can be used as an
informational tool. Students can search information and
learn how to manipulate different software.
The most intriguing thing that has changed my thinking
is the concept that a simple tv show can be used as an
analyzing tool for learning. Students can watch tv shows
to analyze the logistics into the production of the content.
Using the Internet can also help prepare students for
college by researching information for scholarships.

What do you still want to know about these?I still would like to know if the use of the
Internet is available for all elementary school
kids.
I want to know if a student is not at the same
level as his/her peers are there computer classes
for those students.

Have you integrated any of these into your teaching or has any of your professors integrated this into your
coursework?
I have not integrated any of the ideas in teaching, but I plan
on incorporating the ideas of having the students analyze
their favorite tv show. I think that this would be a good
idea for the students, and they may learn why they think
they like the show.
I do know a teacher that has incorporated something similar
into their lesson using Michael Jackson's Thriller video.
The video was used to teach the elements of plot. I have
discussed with this teacher about using the same concept
to teach my class.

Three lesson ideas in which you could integrate one or more of the literacies we've discussed in this unit into your curriculum, making it age appropriate. Be sure to
include the following in your descriptions:
Grade level- 11th
Content area-English Literature
Student Product- Evidence for Trial
Brief overview of the lesson-
The lesson would be about the Crucible. I would have the students bring Abigail back
from Barbados to stand trial for her accusations that lead to the deaths of so many
people. The students would prepare litigation for the prosecutors and defense of
Abigail Williams. The prosecutors would have to have witnesses, evidence and
testimony to support their case, and the defense would have to do the same. The
students would present their case to a judge appointed by the teacher, and their
will be a jury composed of the students in the classroom. There will be a students
who will play the role of Abigail. The trial will take about two class period with the
jury taking the case on the second day to determine if she is guilty or will suffer the
fate that her neighbors did. This lesson would be based on the reading (comprehension),
research (making the learning meaningful),and the movie (analyze). The students would have to analyze the movie to determine
what they deem as real evidence and what could be used in the trail.
