What do you know about our planet Earth?
The Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only place we know, so far, that is inhabited by living things. It takes eight minutes for sunlight to reach our planet.
It is the fifth largest planet in the Solar System and the only one with liquid water on its surface, approximately 70% of which is water, which is why it is known as the "Blue Planet". It has an atmosphere, composed mainly of nitrogen and oxygen, which allows us to breathe and protects us from meteorites that want to enter our planet.
The Earth has only one satellite, the Moon, which is the brightest and most familiar object in the night sky.

Is the Earth moving?

The Earth's motions

The Earth performs two types of motion:
- ROTATION, in which it spins around itself. It takes 24 hours to make one complete revolution, thus causing day and night.
- REVOLUTION, in which it moves around the Sun, tracing an elliptical orbit that takes 365 days and 6 hours. This movement gives rise to the seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Beginning of the day
"Sunrise" is the term we use to indicate the moment when the sun rises above the horizon (in the East), the appearance of daylight.

End of the day
"Sunset" is the time when the sun sets, goes down or disappears over the horizon in the West.

In the night...
Who appears?
THE MOON
The Moon is the Earth's only satellite, it revolves around our planet and takes 28 days to make one complete revolution. Throughout these days it changes its shape, which is what we know as lunar phases and is caused by two things: the moon's movement around the Earth and because it reflects the light from the sun.

In spring the weather becomes warmer, trees begin to leaf, plants begin to flower and many animals come out of their burrows.
