Hace mucho tiempo, un monstruo marino gigante conocido como Meester Stoor Worm surgió del mar. Se dijo que el cuerpo de Stoor Worm se extendía al otro lado del mundo. Que su único ojo estaba tan rojo como el fuego. Que su aliento era veneno para todos los seres vivos.

Cada día se acercaba más a Escocia.

The king of Scotland asked the sorcerer for help. “You must give your only daughter, Princess Gemlovely, to the Stoor Worm,” said the sorcerer. “Only then will it leave."

The king went pale. Princess Gemlovely was kind, gentle, and loved by everyone. “Is that the only way to save my people?” the king asked.

“It is the only way,” the sorcerer said.

The king knew the sorcerer was serious. But he wasn’t ready to give up yet.

El rey envió un mensaje a toda Escocia: el hombre que pueda matar al gusano Meester Stoor obtendrá la mitad del reino y la princesa Gemlovely como su novia. El rey se emocionó cuando treinta y seis hombres se adelantaron.

Pero tan pronto como vieron al monstruo, todos huyeron. El rey estaba triste.

Sabía que la princesa tenía que ser ofrecida al Stoor Worm.

Hubo gran dolor en toda la tierra.

El día antes de que la princesa fuera ofrecida al monstruo, un granjero fue a la orilla del mar. Su nombre era Steven.

Toda su vida Steven quiso ser un gran héroe.

Estaba decidido a derrotar al Stoor Worm y salvar a la princesa Gemlovely.

Steven borrowed a small boat. He loaded a bucket of burning coals into it and rowed toward the Stoor Worm.

At dawn, the monster awoke. It slowly opened its giant jaws in a yawn. A great flood of water rushed into its open mouth.

The boat and Steven were swept in. Steven was carried down the Stoor Worm’s throat.
