Food!

I love food. But food is
more than just the taste
and full feeling it gives
you.
Huh?
Food gives your body the stuff it
needs to grow or heal damaged
parts of your body.
Call me Thunder!!!

Your body breaks down food
(after you eat it) into
nutrients that give you energy
or can be used in your cells.

Wait... does that mean I'm partially made out of food?! I know I'm the
narrator and YOU should be asking
questions, but...

Calories, caloriesThe amount of energy infood is measured in Calories.
Note that a capital "C" is used!
But do you wonder what calories with a
lowercase "c" is now?
(You're supposed to say yes,
even if no one else is here.)

A calorie, with a lowercase "c" is the
amount of energy needed
to raise the temperature of
a gram of water by one Celsius
degree.

Wow, that's a lot to remember...
Hmmm... All of this
talk about food and
calories reminds me of
a time a while back...

One day, I was
in science
class,
when
Our teacher brought up Calories.
I said that I had a
2,000 Calorie
sandwich at McDonald's
before.

Of course,
everyone in the
class laughed and started
telling their own
food stories.

I drew this picture, which represents EXACTLY how
our class looked.

My teacher thought the stories that weretold were funny. The bell rang and we
went to the next class, which was P.E.
In P.E., we learned about-surprise
surprise- calories.What was it-calorie
week? Everyone in our class tried to tell
the stories we told in science...and the
teacher asked for quiet, but I think I can
explain better in pictures.

Our teacher, Mr. Pomfreido(pom-pom for short), explained
all that I have told you about
Calories (capital "C") in this
section.

But the next day...

But there's more! This isNOT the end!

Carbohydrates are made of
carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen.
They provide materials to
make cell parts.
There are simple and complex
carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates
Simple carbohydrates aka
glucose are the most important
source of energy for body's
cells.

Whereas complex
carbohydrates, are made up of
many sugars linked together in
a chain.

One carbohydrate is starch.Starch consists of a large number of
glucose units. Glucose is a sugar,
it's chemical expression is C6H1206
C6H1206 is composed of 6 carbon
atoms, 12 hydrogen atoms, and 6
oxygen atoms.

Fats-Fats are also known as lipids and
are energy-containing nutrients.
-They are composed of carbon,
oxygen, and hydrogen.
-There are saturated or unsaturated
fats.

I know this section has a lot to remember,
so the facts are arranged
by sentence.
AAH!
Try to read sentenceby sentence,
it helps.123

-Saturated fats are solid and
mainly found in coconuts,
and oils.
-Unsaturated fats are liquids
melted at room temperature.
It is processed in unhealthy
food.

CelluloseCellulose is an organic compound.
It is a polysaccharide (pol-ee-sach-a-
ride),
or a carbohydrate whose molecules
are made
of sugar molecules that are bonded
together.

Cholesterol-Cholesterol is a waxy substance
produced by the liver.
-It is found in certain foods.
-It is needed to make vitamin D and some
hormones, to build cell walls, and to
create salts that help you digest fat.

ProteinsProteins are nutrients that
contain nitrogen, carbon,
hydrogen, and oxygen. They are
needed for tissue growth
and repair.

I just got a paper cut! Pass the protein

Enzymes are a type of protein
that speed up chemical
reactions in the body.

VitaminsVitamins are organic
compounds.
Organisms need vitamins,
but only in limited amounts.
A quick AD sponsored by the Louisisaloser foundation:

Nutrients
Nutrients are substancesthat provide nourishment
and help you grow.
Haha...Louis is a loser.Wait, that's me!

Dietary Fiber
Dietary fiber is the indigestiblepart of food that comes from
plants and waste of animals that
eat dietary fiber.

Amino AcidsAmino acids are simpleorganic compounds
containing carbon,hydrogen,
oxygen, and nitrogen,and
carboxylic acid
Essential amino acids areamino acids that are needed
by animals. These acids cannot
synthesize. That means that they
can not copy DNA.
Essential Amino Acids
MineralsMinerals are naturally
occurring, solid, inorganic
elements.
They are hard
and can be recognized by
color.
