Hi! My name is Gibby the Gecko. I am here
today to bring you on my adventure about
photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and
nutrients! Are you ready? This is where our
picnic begins!

Humans and geckos consume many of the same
nutrients. Obviously, geckos might not need as
much due to the size difference. There are six
different types of nutrients. Carbohydrates,
protein, and lipids are three types. Vitamins,
minerals, and water are the other three types of
nutrients.

Carbohydrates helps regulate water in the
body. Some examples are milk, fruits, grains,
and veggies. Did you know milk helps
strengthen your bones? Now we are off to
our next stop on our fabulous adventure!

Proteins are very important nutrients! They
make muscle, fight bacteria, and provide extra
energy. Proteins include fish, poultry, nuts and
beans.

Lipids, more commonly known as fats, are not
always bad for you! They are still needed in
our daily nutrients in healthy amounts. Lipids
control blood pressure, protect nerves, help
blood to clot, and lastly, make membranes
around cells. Some examples of healthy fats
are meats and dairy!

Vitamin Ln. Next in our adventure is a stop on vitamin
lane! Vitamins are important because they
are substances needed to function! So next
time your mom tells you to eat your fruits
and veggies, you will know why! But
remember, they are best in small amounts!

You may think minerals are just rocks, but
they are also part of the nutrient family!
They are chemical elements that are needed
for body processes. Some examples of
minerals are bread,vegetables, yogurt, and
sodium.

Last but definitely not least is water! You
need this nutrient to stay alive. Hydration
cells in your body are 2/3 water. It is
basically in EVERYTHING you eat, but you
are still expected to drink about 8 glasses of
water a day to stay hydrated! Did you know
about 76% of your body is water? Wow!
That's a lot!

To get to the end of my picnic adventure, I
have to take a long trek through the Sahara
Desert! This desert being specifically dry
means no water can get to the plants
making it really hard for photosynthesis to
occur. In order for photosynthesis to happen
it must go through several different steps.
