The cool, salty waves were flowing onto the sizzling beach. It
was a fiery 100 degrees Fahrenheit with a slight chance of a
storm, a perfect day for a swim in the relaxing ocean. The ocean
was salty and the reefs were colorful and vivid. Everything was so
full of life and at every turn there was a new journey awaiting. The
sandy shore and the billowing blue ocean were crawling with
creatures. They had curiosity and limitations, the flawless
combination of an adventurer, just like me.
The turquoise ocean water glistened in the glaring sun. It
sparkled like snow crystals on a winter day. The vast ocean was
littered with seashells and colorful coral. Striking shades of the
reef were stunning as they seemed to lighten the ocean and the
mood. The ocean looked as if the rainbow threw up on it.
Everything was as radiant as a sunset in the spring.

A dip in the ocean seemed like the best way to take advantage
of that quickly passing day. The ocean water was crisp and
comforting in the raging heat of the sun. I dived into the water
fearlessly touching interesting squishy things and occasionally
scraping myself on rough edges in a neon reef. Besides the
occasional bumps and bruises, my little adventure was glorious. I
later discovered this was the beginning of an even bigger venture,
not trying to make do, but to survive.

Underwater, I was in a land of my own. I was not paying
attention to the waves, sky, or weather. When I submerged from
the water, my gut had an ominous feeling. The monstrous waves
were hammering down hastily. I didn't realize where I moved to in
the vast ocean. The bank was nowhere to be seen. I was a sardine
up against a giant whale, a little girl lost in the Big Apple.
To make matters worse, a whipping whirlpool was taking form.
The vicious vortex was sending me spiraling toward my doom. Other
ocean critters were being sucked in too. The massive current was a
very tough struggle. Many animals, including me, thrashed
helplessly. Everything was a blur and a constant need for dear life.
My brain stopped functioning and I blacked out.

When I woke up from what I thought was a nightmare, I realized
it was just plain reality. The waves towered over me. The darkness
overcame every ray of sunlight and it engulfed the ocean. Black skies
reigned upon the beach and clouds accompanied the chaos. I felt
betrayed by Mother Earth, a victim in nature. Panic enveloped my
keen senses. Am I going to survive this horrific tragedy? Will I ever
find my way back to my safe haven, the shore?
Out of energy, out of time, and out of breath, I was forced to
doggy paddle. My helpless body was aching from the constant struggle
for life. Gasping for precious air, I was forced underwater by the
impact of the waves. I tried swimming up, but I was so deep in the
ocean that I didn't know which way was up. In the swirling dark blur I
saw in the distance of the ocean a pod of of dolphins. They looked
playful and gentle.
