Once upon a time there was a digestive system dinosaur. He was big and green and loved to eat. And you cant forget curious.

One day he started to wonder what happened to all the food he ate? He ate and ate and he knew it all came out but why what happened to the food?
So... he went to his friend the forensic ferret. The forensic ferret was smart, a genius even he wondered all the worlds mysteries. He even studied the passage way of food we eat went.

Knowing how smart the forensic ferret was the digestive dinosaur asked the Forensic ferret,"what happens to all the food I eat Mr.
The ferret pulls out the white board from his laboratory and says, "I will teach you all I have learned of the ...Digestive system!
Lets start with enzymes, they are not the first part of the system but to understand it fully its useful to know what the are first. Basically enzymes are proteins that help speed up chemical reactions in the body. They take the shape of other proteins as well as carbs and lipids to help break them down. They then return to their original state or they become denatured.
Dinosaur: "Woah Woah Woah?" "Wait a minute doc, what does denatured mean?"
The forensic ferret explains by saying denatured enzymes that have lost their shape and are no longer useful.

The first part of the digestive track is the mouth. This is the location where mechanical breakdown happens. This happens by us chewing food with our jaws which pretty quickly break the food in to smaller bits.

Even me doc?! I had no idea my mouth did that much.
.
Before I say more let me just show you the whole thing Little dinosaur.

Incredible Mr Ferret! Thank you so much for the awesome diagram. But, Im still confused so can we go over the whole thing?

Sure thing little dinosaur, lets continue with the esophagus.
The Esophagus is a tube connected to the mouth that transports food and liquid from the mouth to the stomach.

That's fantastic Mr. Ferret.

The stomach is the 3rd part of the digestive system, The purpose of it is the digest food we eat, it is shaped in as a J.

This is also the sight of chemical breakdown do to enzymes from the pancreas.
