Chapter 1

In a den out in the woods, a puppy was rolling a small yellow ball back and forth as he listened to his family talking about 'the news of the pack' as they called it.

''Dogs have been catching less and less food each day, soon enough we will be stealing food from the human village'', his Dad reported.

The puppy glanced down at his ball, he had suspected that the ball had come from the village himself, but he knew the stories of why you shouldn't go there. Humans and dragons weren't very nice.

''Hey, I think I'm going to go out to play with Prince today.'' the puppy said, not wanting to hear any more about all the food disappearing.

''Okay Spirit, but be back by sunset.''  Commanded his Mum.

''And try to bring back some prey, even though you're louder then Byron.'' Asked Chief, one of his brothers, with a chuckle.

''Hey, at least I don't slobber everywhere!'' Shouted back his second brother.

''Okay, goodbye!'' Spirit raced out the door as his brothers shouted at each other.

Chapter 2

Spirit reached the den of his friend Prince, who greeted him at the entrance.

''Oh good, you're here! I have something I need to show you.''

Spirit's ears flicked up and his tail started to wag.

''Well that's new! What is it, a new type of animals, human stuff or just something about the prey again?''

'' You'll see. Basically, I smelt something weird and tracked it too...'' 

Prince started sniffing the air and the ground.

The two friends tracked the scent through the woods until they reached a spot well hidden by plants, bushes, and trees.

They hid behind some bushes on a ledge and spied on what was down below.

''What on earth are those creatures? they don't look like anything I've seen before, and I've seen dragons catching mice.'' Spirit whispered.

''Still really weird. Also I think they call themselves cats.'' Prince pointed down below. ''Look, there!''

Down below, two kittens walked up to what was probably their pack leader.

The pink kitten spoke first.

''Hey Dad, what are we gonna do about that river stone thing we told you about yesterday? you know, the thing those dragons told us about?''

''Of course, Reagan. With powers like that: healing, making animals leave a place, bringing water, how could we not?'' The pack leader, their Dad, answered. '' I'll send Spot and Stripe to go up to the mountains and meet with these dragons.''

The grey kitten puffed up his fur.

''But Spot and Stripe are stupid! Even we would be better at it!''

Their Dad looked down at them with narrowed eyes. 

''Well they're the only cats we have at the moment. Every other full grown cat has gone out hunting. And you're kittens, it would be too dangerous for you.''

''Okay, Dad.'' They both sighed.

They turned away and walked over to sit by some leaves.

Reagan faced her brother and whispered:

''So, we all know that Spot and Stripe can't do this themselves. Whaddya say Scrappy, do you want to go up to that mountain and get that stone?'' 

''Yep!'' he replied.

Back on the ledge, Spirit turned to face his friend.

''A magic river stone, huh? That can heal, make animals leave a place, and bring water? With that power, it could probably also make a ton of prey come! Wait a minute, the cats are what  probably what caused it all to disappear in the first place.....''

Prince's tail started to wag.

''Yeah, and if we were to climb up that mountain to get it all by ourselves, then everyone will see that we aren't just some annoying little puppies. We wouldn't be overlooked by our thousands of siblings anymore! ''

Spirit already started running.

''Come on! let's go get that Stone!
