On a soccer team there is usually eleven players, but if it is younger ones playing it could be nine or seven players. There are many different formations that can be played with. There are four "whole" positions- goalkeeper defender, midfielder, and striker, but there is more than just one defender, midfielder, and striker, but there is only one goalkeeper. A goalkeeper is allowed to use his\her hands, but no other position is allowed to. If another position player uses their hands it would be some sort of a kick would be taken depending on where the player uses there hands. There are fouls. If it is a serious foul the player gets either a red or yellow card, if it is not serious the other teams gets a free kick. If a player receives two yellow cards, they receive a red card, and are kicked out of the game, and that team remains one player less the rest of the game. There are usually three refs- a head in the center and ref two assistants on the sideline.
All players must have shin guards. and cleats that aren't metal spikes. Your cleats aren't supposed to have metal spikes on the bottom so if you step on another players feet they don't get hurt. You're supposed to wear shin guards so if you get kicked you don't get bruised and\or hurt. The way they tell if you have the requirements is by checking you in. When you get checked in your team goes in a line, and you tap your shin guards and lift a cleat up. When you get checked in you also get your name called out you say your number, and then you go by your team. Teams usually get two jerseys, a lighter color jersey, and a darker color jersey, this is so the teams can be told apart by coaches parents and refs. The goalies wear different colored jerseys than there team so they can be told apart from the rest of the team, and they wear gloves that give them good grip for catching, and doesn't hurt there hands.
