
Today is Jimena’s first day of school. She is very excited because she’s very smart and loves to learn. Jimena likes to learn because she also likes to teach other people what she learns.
Jimena got to school, and her first day was good. It was an easy day because they just had to introduce themselves, and then they got to play together. Jimena was even able to make friends named Allison, Skyle, and Alice.
The school day quickly passed, but before they all left, the teacher said, “We will work on learning about numbers next week.”
Jimena was happy about this because she already knew how to count to ten. Her older cousins had taught her how to.
That week quickly passed, and soon it was a new week. Just like Jimena’s teacher had said they would, they started learning about numbers. First, they learned how to count, but it wasn't hard for Jimena because she already knew how to count to ten.
1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6... 7... 8... 9 ... 10
By the time it was Wednesday, Jimena's teacher said, “Now that we know how to count, we will learn how to write the numbers.”
Jimena thought that even though it was something new, she would be able to do it easily.
Once they started, she quickly noticed that it wasn’t so easy after all. She couldn't make the numbers look how they were supposed to, especially the number six.
By the end of the week, she still wasn’t able to write the numbers correctly, so she felt upset. When she got home, Jimena’s brother, Jonathan, noticed that she looked sad. He wanted to help her, so he asked her, “What's wrong, Jimena?”
At first, Jimena didn’t want to tell him, but then she said, ”I’m sad because I couldn’t write the numbers at school.”
“Jimena, it was your first week writing numbers. You just have to keep trying,” said Jonathan.
