Summary

It is after the 74th annual Hunger Games, and 

Katniss and Peeta have just won. There victory 

is short-lived, however, as they soon realize 

that their stunning display of accidental revolt 

against the Capitol has turned up a revolution 

that they did not mean to create. Katniss and 

Peeta have to play the part of star-crossed 

lovers while avoiding the Capitol and President 

Snow himself. Soon, the Quarter 

Quell is announced, and this time, a male and 

female will be reaped from the pool of previous 

victors. Can they pull all of it off?

Setting

The setting of the Hunger Games is in a 

country made from post-apocalyptic America 

known as Panem. In this country, people are 

divided up into districts, where people work 

depending on the geographic location. It is 

based in the near apocalyptic future.

Characterization #1: Katniss Everdeen

Katniss Everdeen is a teenage girl who has lived 

her entire life in District 12, the outermost 

district. She is very skilled at hunting with a bow 

and uses those skills to win the 74th annual 

Hunger Games. She is tall, has long brown hair 

that is usually worn by her in a single braid that 

runs down her back, and has olive skin. She takes 

care of her mother and sister, Prim, after her 

father died. The book is told from her point of 

view. Although most of the time she seems 

strong, she is very kind and light-hearted, as is 

shown by her willingness to take care of her 

mother and little sister.

Characterization #2: Peeta Mellark

Peeta is Katniss's best friend and "star-crossed 

lover". He and Katniss were the only time that 

2 victors have ever emerged from the Hunger 

Games. Since their victory, an accidental 

rebellion has been started against the Capitol. 

Peeta is tall with dirty blond hair. He has 

brown eyes and is one of the main characters. 

He does actually like Katniss, as is explained in 

the first book.

Characterization #3: Coriolanus Snow

Coriolanus Snow, or President Snow, is the 

president of Panem. He is the main antagonist 

in the story and has white hair, a white beard, 

puffy lips, and blue eyes. He tries to fight 

Katniss after her display of rebellion in the 

74th Hunger Games. Snow repeatedly 

threatens Katniss that he will kill her if she 

does not go with the Capitol's wishes.
