There once was a boy named Scrubs and he
lived in Charleston, West Virginia.

In this town, there is a big power plant that
is putting lots of black smoke into the air.

One day when Scrubs was walking, he noticed the
smoke in the sky. He asked his dad, Samuel the super-
smart scientist, "why is there smoke?"
Why is there smoke?

He said, "A long time ago, people burned coal to keep
warm. Later, they used it to make electricity."

Power Plant Office
"Now, this plant is owned by Colton, the
uncool coal consumer."

This coal plant has caused many humans and
animals to get sick. Since it also releases sulfur,
it makes acid rain that hurts the trees.

"The coal plant also releases
dddddddddddddddddd little particles that are like very
ddddddddddddddddd tiny pieces of rocks, which can
ddddddddddddddddd get stuck in your lungs and
dddddddddddddddd make you sick."

That night, Scrubs could not get any
sleep. The thought of the coal power
plant scared him.

What if the pollution hurts
me? What if the pollution
hurts my family? What if...

The next morning, Scrubs went on Google
and tried to find out how to stop the
pollution. The thing that he found was a
scrubber.

It uses limestone to turn the sulfur in
the pollution into something called calcium
sulfate. It looks like dried mud, but it is
white and it can be recycled.
Scrubber

Scrubs headed down to
Colton's coal factory to
show him the scrubbers he
found.

Scrubs walks in and sees Colton talking to
his neighbor Reynaldo the renewable
resource kid.

That sounds amazing!

Hello Mr.Colton. This is a
wind turbine. It produces
a lot of renewable energy.

When Reynaldo left, Scrubs went in and
introduced himself.

Hello Mr.Colton. My name is Scrubs and I have
something called scrubbers.
They are cheap and will
pollution.
decrease

After a while, Colton made Scrubs leave
his building.
They don't look very cheap. How am I supposed to know that they
even work! I don't like Scrubbers.

Later that night, Scrubs headed back to the power
plant to show Colton how great the scrubbers are and
convince him once and for all that they are good for
the environment.

A worker at the plant let Scrubs in once he
learned that Scrubs was going to stop the
pollution.
