At the shore of the sea just past the dead
trees, where no pelicans played or turtles
stayed, there was a troubled old man.

A pelican passing by had seen the troubled old man
and he asked “Hello, can I help you? My name is
Stan.”

The man gloomly said “I need to change my ways but I
don't know what to say. No one will stay.”

“I can help you, tell me why you are so blue.” Stan said
to the man.

The man said, " You have to promise to hear the
words that come straight from my heart. I ask you
kind bird, please play your part.

A long time ago, turtles would come in large and
small, pelicans came in short and tall, seagulls
soared fast and slow and you can't forget the
crabs that moved ever so slow. This was the place
called Sunset Shore, oh how we want it back so
much more.

Sunset Shore had green rolling hills and huge
sandy dunes but the best of all were the big blue
waves that crash on the Kitty Hawk Shore. Oh!
The fish! How could I forget the beautiful flopping
fish? They have called Sunset Shore their home as
long as time can tell.

It was one day when a man drove to Sunset Shore
in his shiny new car. All the animals stopped their
business and turned their heads.

The man got out of the car and said “Yes, this is
the perfect spot for my plant!” he then pulled
several things out of his car and began to work
through sunrise and sunset.

A tall tower now stood where the animals stayed
and played. The man looked at the animals and said
“Hello to all, my name is Samuel fuel but you may
call me Mr. Fuel. I will be burning my coal here so I
can bring energy to all.”

A seagull appeared at Samuel Fuel's foot “Mr. fuel,
I have to ask of you that you not burn this coal,
this is the place that we call our home.”

“Who are you little bird?” Mr. Fuel asked “I must
burn this coal to make more green, I have a family
you see and all families need green. Without my
plant, there would be no energy and everyone
needs energy from my coal!” he exclaimed.

“I am protector of these animals, my name is
Solar. Mr. fuel, please sir, don't be so cruel.” said
Solar.

”Solar, I understand but I am a man. I can do as I
want without you telling me that I cannot.
Everyone uses my plant, it is the best energy plant
that has ever stood!” Mr. Fuel yelled.

“Suit yourself samuel Fuel, I guess you really are
this cruel.” sighed Solar. He then shook his head
and flew away.

“That silly bird! how could he think that he can tell
me that i can not stay here?” said Mr. Fuel.

Months went on since the man had seen Solar so
greedy Mr. Fuel went on with his job and things
were only getting worse for the animals. Day after
day, more coal burned and the factory grew. The
once beautiful skies began turning cloudy and gray
with carbon dioxide and more people came to work
at Mr. Fuel’s coal power plant.

The pelicans were the first of the animals to leave.
They begun to cough, finding it hard to breathe.
So Solar sent them away to find a better home.
The poor pelicans could play no more but instead,
flew off shore.

Solar landed near Mr. Fuel and said “Mr. Fuel
please, my pelicans play no more, now I had to send
them away from our shore. Soon I will have to send
the other animals away as well. please stop burning
so much of your coal.”

Mr. Fuel simply shook his head “Sorry Solar, no can
do. I am sorry that your pelicans have left you but
that is not from my coal plant. Business is business
and people need energy and not pelicans.” He
explained. Solar then flew away, disappointed with
Mr. Fuel.

A few days later, the turtles that stayed at the
shore could stay no more. Solar then sent them on
their long journey and hoped that they would find
a place to live where the air wouldn't choke them
no more.

As the months went on, Mr. fuel soon decided that
he wanted to use oil and gas as well as coal in his
power plant. oh boy, Samuel Fuel was using all the
bad fossil fuels.

As the plant grew larger and more fuels burned,
Solar sent the rest of the animals of Sunset Shore
on their long journeys to find a better home.

The air was polluted with carbon dioxide, making if
hard to breathe. The seas grew higher; the
weather turned wild and strange. The climate even
got warmer than usual. This was called The
Greenhouse effect.

The once beautiful Sunset Shore was now covered
in a smoky shade of gray. The meadows and shores
where all the animals lived were now lifeless and
empty. The only thing that still had life was greedy
Samuel Fuel’s coal power plant.
